(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

PADRAIC MAHER WILL captain the reigning All-Ireland senior hurling champions Tipperary for the 2017 season.

The announcement sees Thurles Sarsfields player Maher promoted from vice-captain as he replaces Borris-Ileigh's Brendan Maher, who was the leader when Tipperary lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup in September.

Star forward Seamus Callanan from the Drom-Inch club is the new vice-captain of the Tipperary team.

The proposed challenge match which would have seen Tipperary hurlers back in action in Cloughjordan on Sunday next will not go ahead as planned as St. Thomas' (Galway) have withdrawn.

The focus turns therefore to Sunday week, January 29th as Antrim welcome Tipperary up North for a challenge match as part of a weekend to remember the late Fr. Alec Reid, Redemptorist Priest, originally from Nenagh and who played a pivotal role in the Peace Process.

Fr. Reid was a member of the Tipperary minor hurling panel which won the All-Ireland title in 1949 and he was joint recipient of the 1995 Tipperary International Peace Award and was also awarded the Tipperary Person of the Year by the Tipperary Association Dublin in April 2006.

On Sunday morning, 29th, at 9.30am mass in Clonard Monastery, 3 commemorative plaques will be presented in memory of Fr. Reid. One plaque will be for Clonard Monastery, one to be placed in the redeveloped Casement Park and one brought back to Tipperary.

Later at 12.30pm in Corrigan Park, Belfast, the match against Antrim will take place

Good appointment of Paraic Maher as captain for 2017.Brendan Maher did a fantastic job so hopefully Tipp can do the back-to-back All Irelands with the iconic Paudie Maher at the helm.

It's as good as it can be all things considered. Did Curran start this fixture last year and do reasonably well?

O'Keefe has had a good league campaign and had to start with Cahill and Donagh Maher out injured.

Looks like good old Bubbles has to stand in the naughty boys' corner.

What do you think of the team yourself Ormond?

Ignore the Bubbles comment, for some reason I had it in my head that he was dropped, my brain was hard-wired to think that after all the rumours circling about him.

Have just seen Cathal Barret's been dropped: http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=271001

I know he wasn't great the last couple of days out, and would be out for 6 weeks anyway with injury, but dropping him altogether seems extreme, no? Having him as at least an option on the bench if we get to the quarter/semi/final stages would be better than not, I would have thought.

A lot going on behind the scenes in Tipperary at the minute. Most of it has nothing to do with hurling

They only played for 50 minutes. Tipp only had Four that started against Cork out. Seamie scored 5-5 in 15 minutes and was taking off.

So with the draw looming who does everyone favour us drawing?
I guess at some stage before the quarter final we'll have to knock out either Dublin,Kilkenny or Waterford.
Would be a disaster if we didn't make the last 6.

Can see us getting KK. Who do I want us to get ? The easiest draw possible, let the other teams take lumps out of each other while we slip by in a handy game. It worked for Clare in 13 while ourselves and KK went to war.

I'm torn between Kilkenny and the worst team left in the competition, up until a day or two ago I would have been all for the worst team left in the championship but Kilkenny look vulnerable at the minute.

What about we get a handy one in round one and play Kilkenny the following week after Limerick or Waterford have knocked 40 shades of sh@te out of them.

Hurling
Dublin v Laois
Kilkenny v Limerick
Offaly v Waterford
Tipperary v Westmeath

Good draw for us IMO. We can try few things out and still progress easily enough.

Happy enough with that draw. The winner of KK vs Lim will find it hard to play again the following weekend.

Perfect draw, sail into next round where hopefully we get another nice handy one. Dublin or Laois please next. Let's sit back and watch Limerick KK take lumps out of each other with extra time too please.
