Corofin if a County team

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Corofin will probably beat Crokes imo.

It's silly talk saying that Corofin are better than county teams. The vast bulk of Corofin's successful club players, going back to 1991, have failed to make a serious impact at intercounty level. That's not a surprising or unique phenomenon either. For examples, in hurling since the 90's, Sarfields, Athenry & Portumna had dominant phases, where they were loaded with players who were hugely effective all the way to all-ireland club level, but were relatively ineffective at intercounty level. That might not be entirely due to the standard of those players either, but could relate in part to the possiblility that these players are somewhat sated appetite wise from their club exploits alone."
A club which produced ray silke & Kieran Fitzgerald to win all Ireland's is not a bad impact, just because a club team is not a county team does not mean they train as hard or have a effective game plan, even with a lack of resources which average div 2 &3 teams enjoy they would beat most and the fact that 3/4 will be starting for galway come summer and an other 2/3 players would easily make any div 2/3 teams

golfcar, they also produced Martin Mc Namara and Brian Silke in 1998 along with Michael Comer and the actual team captain in 2001 Kieran Comer who got dropped from the starting team mid campaign but came on against Meath in the final, along with U21 winners in David Morris, K Fitzgerald, M Comer, K Comer, D Hanley, Gary Delaney, Alan Burke, G Sice, Minors G Burke, O Burke and Owen Higgins, not a bad contribution from any club.

I forgot, Maurice and Pat Burke in 1972, 2011, Cathal Silke, Mike Farragher and Tom Healey, Daithi Burke, Cathal Silke, Liam Silke, Ian Burke and Tom Healy again.

Replying To Whammo86:  "If Antrim played seriously and lost to Corofin I'd be asking serious questions of the management team.

Club football isn't even close to being the same level as county.

The weakest 4 teams of Leitrim, Carlow, Waterford and London would possibly be Corofin's level."
Completely agree with this. Clubs teams have friendlies against county teams this time of year but county teams are generally not training together for long and play fringe players. I would be shocked if Limerick (Division 4) played corofin in April and didnt win comfortably.

If they are so good why does the Galway team have players from other clubs?

I'd have to argue with that.
Any of Corofins 6 forwards would walk onto them county teams STARTING.
Farragher x 2, Lundy, Wall, Sice, Burke and Leonard. I live on leitrim border.
There is guys starting with Leitrim that wouldnt get near a Corofin, Vincents, Ballymun, Crokes etc team

Replying To tiobraid:  "I don't go to Mayo club matches and I don't think 2015 is in anyway relevant but they were average on the day, so maybe my point was badly made."
Fair enough. IMO Castlebar will fall short of the biggest prize due to lacking one or two top forwards (like most Mayo sides, unfortunately) but on first reading, "average" seemed a bit harsh. Not many sides beat former All-Ireland champions St. Brigids, Corofin (x2), Crossmaglen and Dr. Crokes in three seasons without winning Andy Merrigan.

Corofin are a class side who will be hard to stop, IMO.

The Dr.Crokes 6 forwards in the Munster Final were as follows

Daithi Casey
Johnny Buckley
Brian Looney
Colm Cooper
Gavin O Shea
Kieran O Leary

Arguably the strongest set of forwards left in the club championships and all of them would walk onto a Waterford/Leitrim/Wicklow team BUT the reality is a Waterford/Leitrim/Wicklow team would be better balanced and have an overall better 20 players & that is the bottom rung of teams in the country. You can absolutely forget about them teams facing anyone in div 3 of the NFL

Corofin are a class side, they proved that when they won in 2015, beating a fine Vincents team on the way.
That said it also has to be said that Brigids were dire last Sunday, absolutely dire.
Corofin V Crokes is a fifty fifty game in my book.

I don't know - Crokes are a good team but I actually think Corofin will account for them handy enough (by 3 or 4 points). I also think the other semifinal could be a tight affair

Corofin are a great team but no way would I write off Crokes, I don't think there'll be much in it the only pity is we've to wait 11 weeks for it. If Vincent's get to Croke Park they'll be very hard bet, but there not playing as good as before and Rhode will trouble them and if they win that the Derry boys will be a very tough game.

Pointless thread. I wonder how many of them were among the 52 who turned Kevin down in his first two years. If they're that good, get em on the galway panel, fight for a place on the team and get galway back to where they belong, winning all Ireland's. Anything else is just useless, pointless winter pin talk.

yes the striking thing about this thread is how pointless it is
