Hypothetically talking about a hypothetical situation. Sure if there isn't enough to be arguing about with what goes on in the real world eh..... :-)

I'm on about the principles of Irishness, a Irish game for the Irish people, surely the national anthem and flag would be part of that.

How do you know what that Irish flag and Irish anthem will be when that hypothetical day hypothetically comes? And if it they are different to what they are today would that be an issue? My point is that we will always have the National flag flying and anthem playing at GAA matches. Today it is Amhrán na bhFiann and the tri-colour. Prior to these I would guess that whatever was considered the Irish flag was flown at the big GAA games and maybe even some anthem was belted out. And if the day comes where there is a United Ireland then I guess whatever flag and anthem is of the day will be used.

Agree with you 100 per cent. To me I'd welcome anyone into the organisation but Gaelic football and hurling is IRELANDS national sport. Look how well it is organised throughout Ireland. Most clubs have fine pitches, changing rooms and good social clubs. Look how it has been kept going in GB , America , Austrila and other far flung places. The national anthem is always played here in London prior to the Countyfinals and also in the game v the Connaught team Also down through the years the Irish pubs in London and most other places played the nation anthem after a music session. And everybody stood to attention quite unlike what I saw in a pub in Dublin on the Sat evening prior to the 2014 semi Dublin v Donegal I went to watch Mayo v Kerry that evening and I was really suprised at the amount of people who just ignored the anthem as it was played prior to the throw in I was just about the only one who stood up We keep things as they are SamOnErrigal (Donegal) - Posts: 1427 - 05/12/2016 20:36:15 1938493 Link 2 |
It's our flag, it's our national anthem, we're bloody well keeping them, end of story. There are plenty of airports and boats, if these people don't want our flag or national anthem then leave, bye bye riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 05/12/2016 21:27:04 1938501 Link 4 |
No bawling of Our Brawn On Ian or waving of the national sag? You'll be banning the hang sangwedges and raid limonawed next. Enough is enough so it tis. plike (Kerry) - Posts: 569 - 05/12/2016 21:32:41 1938502 Link 0 |
