I'm listening. Population of Blackrock /Haggardstown is big, approximately 6500. So that makes 7 finals in 10 years. Population of Dundalk is approximately 36000 divided by 6 clubs equals 6000 each. How many finals ? I would expect at least 1 town team every year. Same can be said about Drogheda clubs. Maybe a bigger population between 5 clubs. They, like Dundalk are not working at underage level to the extent that they should be. Paralysed by the notion that soccer is strong and attractive to kids in urban areas as if kids in other areas are immune to the same pressures. Ardee have a similar population to that of Geraldines and they are working with their underage players and it shows. barker (USA) - Posts: 55 - 09/10/2017 00:09:29 2053976 Link 0 |
Well as of census 2016 dundalks at 34,500 approx. Haggardstown is at 7000, Ardee is at 7,900. And of Dundalk main urban areas are down and rural area is up. So dividing the number by clubs doesn't work. Na Piarsigh are in dire straits. Their biggest area is Muirheavanmor and is and always was 80per cent soccer. Its a soccer town , and has big Rugby pull as well. In Black Rock/haggarstown they play soccer too underage and are quite strong because the kids play both. In Dundalk and in certain areas they play just one sport. At minor level the Naps, dowdallshill and SOM were amalgamated. You won't see that in the Rock or Ardee. Its a constant struggle to keep young lads in the game, I know because I have spent many hours ringing them. If there was a match on in Oriel Park we would be missing half the players !!

And another thing were not paralysed by any notion, how can you judge that we are not trying we these kids.because I know I am. Its common known fact that in urban areas big estates etc its tends to be soccer. Read a great article about the Dublin team and Tallaght.how many Dublin players come from this area of Dublin and how many GAA clubs are in Tallaght for its size in population. One particular house I called to on a Sunday morning asking if any chance little johnny wanted to play a game , his mother said no, he's in bed he was up all night playing Fifa online. But your right its my fault for trying GAAdundalk (Louth) - Posts: 641 - 09/10/2017 11:54:49 2054063 Link 1 |

Amazes me how clubs in Louth continually do this, do they think something will change this time?? If your going to promote within the club then invest or encourage guys to go and learn first then come back with the experience. Loads of coach education courses and workshops been run by Louth , some clubs seem happy to pay massive phone expenses to none educated coaches

Yes I noticed that, there seems to be an improvemed effort in regard to coach education in the county, can't do any harm.

Surely this can't be true. Does he have a connection in some way to the area? The dump must have paid the community of Philipstown crazy money for them to have the money to build such a fantastic community centre and now still drop the type of twine that is surely associated with a name like this. Was it confirmed or is this rumour? WheresDeBallBag (Louth) - Posts: 458 - 17/10/2017 11:34:39 2055714 Link 0 |

Wow some signing. Good potential in Philipstown at the minute committee and community obviously trying to maximise the return.

Really, Wicklow won one game this year! Wicklow came to Drogheda 18 months ago under Johnie and they where the worse Inter county team to arrive in Drogheda, shocking display. I also believe he was involved with a Dublin club this year that got relegated! MR (Louth) - Posts: 2570 - 17/10/2017 13:43:36 2055750 Link 0 |
Another hope at getting a big name in, hope it works out but really his record with Wicklow is not great maybe club level will bring a change in Fortune

God didn't know that about his club involvement just seen the big name and assumed a big price.

Great move or also can be looked at as a brave move to bring in a man of this level, sharpey (Louth) - Posts: 193 - 17/10/2017 14:39:08 2055767 Link 1 |
I personally dont see how this can be good for the Kevins, i'm sure big money being spent here and if i'm honest the Kevins cant go any further than they already are, yes Callan, Crosbie good but rest of squad very average. I think this could be a huge gamble here.

Crazy appointment, He Managed a team in Meath Curragha for a time and they won nothing. He left and they have not stopped winning since (seriously). The poeople who took over after him i dont think had much coaching experience behind them so what does that tell you.

When are clubs going to learn. The Jack Sheedy experiment in Ardee should be book closed on bringing big name mercenaries in from Dublin who will leave with a big wallet and not give a damn really how it goes once they paid. So many bluffers on the circuit and something the GAA have to seriously look at particularly when they are being paid. Hard I know in this day and age to get someone decent who does it on a voluntarily basis or for basic expenses but you have to try. Wonder what the Blues mgt team costed this year ? Very little I would think Red2017 (Louth) - Posts: 122 - 17/10/2017 22:30:43 2055890 Link 0 |
Players to possibly be trialled for the county seniors this winter who haven't before? C Downey (Blues), E Keenan and D McConnon (Mary's), J Gallagher (John Mitchells ) E Callaghan ( Jocks ) , C Smyth (Joes), J Craven (Gers) A O'Brien (Mattock). I know some have played minor/21s but think all deserve chance with county panel in lead up to O'Byrne Cup. CC17 (Louth) - Posts: 2 - 17/10/2017 23:39:16 2055906 Link 0 |
