Yeah I don't particularly like to see Cavan men get so worked up about playing Monaghan.

It's a bit like United fans comparing their success to that of City when in reality they are the team steeped in a tradition of success while City are the johnny-come-lately noisy neighbours. The Monaghan of the premier league if you will.

Can see why you use British themed example, History is only relevant when it suits yourself eh

I used the comparison as it 's probably the closest comparison to the current Cavan/Monaghan situation that most on here would know of.

I don't want to be unfair to Tyrone posters on here, but there were SOME of them on here in the past decade who were accused of "thinking GAA only started in 2003". That's a bit like the behaviour of some Monaghan fans who seem very quick to forget that they have a once-in-a-lifetime player carrying an otherwise ordinary team.

Don't flatter yourself, it's absolutely not.

Anyway, best of luck to McGleenan and whoever his backroom team may be.

He was a great man for the drop-kick goals!

The disappointing thing for us in this regard is that your new manager, having managed one of the current top club sides in Ulster (Scotstown), won't be as naïve as to believe that s**t.

Can anyone shed light on McGleenan's time at Monaghan Harps? Was he a success?

Another deluded Cavan man................Man United dominated in the 90's and 00's...............Cavan dominated in the 30's and 40's so if your comparing the two Countys Cavan would be Wolverhampton Wanderers.........Used to be big, think there big, but their not!!

As for us been an ordinary team carried by a once in a life time footballer.....................what does that make you's then? and who's carrying you's..........i know the answer and your not going to like it.......................just want to hear it from you!

Colin McAree is joining Cavan not Monaghan, and is a trainer not selector.

Good appointment by Cavan IMO
They have a big chance of reaching the Ulster final and indeed could win Ulster next year. It will be tough though with probably either Tyrone /Donegal coming through from the other half of the draw
MMcG played here in London with a very successful Tir Chonaill Gaels team so great to see an ex TCG 's player becoming a top county manager Best of luck with Cavan and we will have some cracking games in Div one with FOUR Ulster teams in it

Very good appointment by Cavan. McGleenan has done great work with Scotstown in recent years. In fairness they have had easily the best squad in the county in the last few years, with several county players and alot of recent underage success coming up to the seniors - but they still had to go out and perform, and McGleenan has changed them from a team who always faltered on the big day to a seasoned championship team who play with style.

Hopefully it's ourselves who are the first team he faces in the Ulster Championship, but he'll have a good insight into many of our players already, the Scotstown lads especially of course.

Zero impact at Ulster level despite a strong panel. Change is coming at the right time for Scotstown, they need someone to bring them to the next level.

Scotstown fans very disappointed in lack of changes on the line by the management team seemed like they froze in the battle. But Mattie left them 3 counties titles and for an outsider in Scotstown he done seriously well. Is Scotstown good enough to win Ulster? Definitely but not the time to argue if anyone can better McGleenan and win the Ulster crown

Zero impact? They brought Crossmaglen to extra-time up in Armagh in last year's Ulster final. Go back to sleep

I think it's harsh of McGleenan to be overly critical but from being at the game yesterday he mad no substitutions players clearly not playing well still on the field. Scotstown were extremely lucky not to win Ulster last year. Yesterday was a bad day at the office with the shooting deplorable. If McCarthy was playing Scotstown would have won.

The question is would Scotstown have won 3 out of the last 4 titles without him? But playing Kieran Hughes full back in the Ulster final last year was crazy and did cost them.
No one has a crystal ball to see how he will perform with Cavan, but we will wait and see.

Tomsmith here from Cavan
Brolly, Madge Goldrick and others

While youse are all full of fanfare for the a new arrival from outside the County I feel that he has a lot to live up to. Terence Hyland left a greatbase of players behind him in Cavan.
I will hold that mr Hyland was our best manager since Donal Keogan resinged.
In two years time I will come back and I wonder where the new man will be ( probally at the top of the hill in Garvaghy Tyrone) maybe even earlier.
As the great Mrs Tomsmith did say when she heard about the appointment sure another to come in a blaze of gl;ory and may leave in ?????

So bye on this subject untill Oct 2018
