U21 Competition

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Fixtures for the U21 Competition were announced by the Co Board on Monday night on Twitter at 9pm and by email to clubs at 11.58pm. Matches down for Friday night. To give only 4 days notice to young lads who are working or down the country in college is a disgrace. It is also sad to see that from 38 Football clubs, we have only 16 contesting this competition, although seeing how it has been organised by the County Board maybe I shouldn't be so surprised!

a good competition but one that has never been shown enough respect by the county board with finals being played in the depths of winter, we need a new structure & time table for this if it is to prove to be a worthwhile exercise in producing talent for adult teams. I would play it at the start of the year so that a county/club manager is able to assess whether a young player is ready for the adult team that coming year, as is done with the county U21s

fast_forward would u rather see it played in December??in fairness to county board,as soon as finals were finished up last sunday, they did the draw Monday night so it wont run too far into the winter...4 days is plenty..clubs knew it was coming up so should have been training for it last few weeks

Exactly! Clubs knew it was coming & had time to prep for it. I think 16 teams is fantastic interest for a 21s competition. Amalgamating teams is great as it will increase the standard of the competition .

As already said it is also a good opportunity to see if some lads are ready for the step up to Senior football.

Was at the Dundalk Gaels vs mattock/rovers/Emmett's game last night, was a very good game, good standard. I do think that the county board should take this competition much more seriously as it really can show very talented players. there were quite a few talented players on the pitch last night, it was a joy to watch. Mattock/rovers/Emmett's are a very strong side and they were without Ryan burns last night, however they were very strong in the midfield particularly (not sure who the midfielders were ?) and in most other areas of the pitch also. Gaels were also impressive just couldn't match the strength of the amalgamation. I'm looking forward to watching more of this competition and i hope the standard remains high which by the sounds of the teams in it it really should !

Well done Cooley on a good win in the Final. Congrats to the Gallagher management team who put a lot of work into this team over the last 2 Months just shows how much good can come from positive coaching and given some very decent talent.

Under 21 Q/finals friday

Cooley v Fechins
Hunterstown/Mattock/Glens v Gers
Brides v Kevins
Jocks v Blues

One amalgamation team left.

maybe its time U21 should be for clubs fielding on their own.

A three club amalgamation..does not give to many others a chance does it

Should not be allowed to amalgamate 3 clubs considering they are one division 1 and two division 2 clubs together and their area covers drogheda to ardee

You tell me that is fair??
