Replying To Liamwalkinstown:  "Cavanman, surely the idea of player of the year, is in the name, its of the year......
And by Mayo fans own admittance, this year, Cillian has been off the boil for whatever reason??
How can he be POTY based on one point kicked the last day out???
The season didnt start and end on the 3rd Sunday in Sept my friend?"
Oh I agree

BUT - when is it ever picked like that?? If it was to be picked based on the YEAR, i think Johnny Cooper would be too far ahead right now to be caught given his league and championship form.

We all know it's not and a match-winning performance in the final from COC, Connolly, or Kev Mac could see them win it. Best bet right now IMO is Fenton.

Player's of the year and All Stars are more often than not decided in finals. Not that I agree with that. For example Mayo often played great football all summer and indeed the league only to get a hammering from Kerry in the final....there were what 2 or 3 Mayo players as a result on all star teams. People's memory does not cast back to who played well in the league or June/July.

Fenton or Higgins.

Not Boyle. Made a show of himself the last day. His own management had to call him ashore.

No forward has really stood out this year to claim FOTY in my eyes.so it could be a toss up between cooper'fenton'keegan.

In my view, Brian Fenton should win POTY this year. Of course if Mayo win today it will probably be one of their lads

Cooper or Fenton.
I wouldn't given Keegan an all star. He was destroyed in the semi final and got a wing back regardless of who he was marking he didn't add anything to mayos play the last day either

Depends who wins the final. If Dublin win, it'll be Fenton. If Mayo win, I'd tip someone like Cillian O'Connor or maybe Keegan, if he isn't seen as too controversial. If Andy Moran has a big final, he'd be in with a great shout too as he has been performing consistently well all summer.

Andy Moran has been great to watch this year. Doesnt rack up huge scores granted but has Great movement and use of possession is always terrific. If he had a great final today and Mayo (somehow) upset the odds and won he may be an unlikely but merited shout

Ciaran Kilkenny. Absolutely superb again today. Should get man of the match, but they'll probably give that to Dean Rock for scoring 9 points. Kilkenny's selfless attitude, ball skills and tackling today was amazing.

Motm was fitzsimmons which I thought was a bit mad ... would've had connolly and Kilkenny b4 him today

Oh did they name man if the match? I was aware, travelling home after match. Mick Fitzsimons was excellent, and definitely justified his selection, even if it was harsh on Davy Byrne. He marshalled his numerous respective markets very well.

Fenton is a shoo, well deserved too.

I'd give it to Fenton as well, he has the whole package and I think Dublin would have found it hard to retain Sam without him this season.

It's Johnny Cooper for me, he has settled into the full back position left empty by Rory O'Carroll who I think was close to player of year last year. Dublin haven't missed O'Carroll and that is due to Cooper's form

I love watching the Boyler! Hard as nails and gives everything. A bit dirty too if needs be which is great if it's not against your own team!:)

I find it hard to pick a player of the year. I know Tyrone got knocked out in the quarters but the best player I have seen this year is Peter Harte.

If it has to go to a Dublin or Mayo player then it has to be between Fenton and Lee Keegan. Kevin McMenamin and Andy Moran were excellent this year but not as influential in the finals.

Man of the match Mick Fitzsimons was well deserving & did the simple things well, broke up a lot of play & vital interceptions & blocks. Good interview afterwards, articulate & humble. Player of the year Brian Fenton was also well deserved, he is a fabulous player & only 23, another articulate & humble man. Players unlucky were Andy Moran who if Mayo won would have got it, then Boyle. For Dublin Cluxton & Mc Menamin. Two others on either side were probably also in the running but their cynicism of the ball cost both, Connolly & Keegan. Poty & motm were spot on.
