That Macauley Tackle

Replying To Richieq:  "Pre match controversy is nothing new between Dublin and Mayo, I certainly don't agree with any of that stuff before the match but I saw a few photographs today which muddy the waters as to who was at fault. At any rate officialdom has to take blame for that incident too, why were Dublin late out and why were they let be late out, a potential meeting between the two teams should have been avoided and Dublin should have been held in a minute or two extra as they had already missed their cue and Mayo were ready to run out at their appointed time. Call me suspicious or just a stirrer but I'm not so sure that the Dubs didn't intend to rattle Mayo's cage a bit by meeting in the tunnel, why did their timekeeping suddenly falter last Sunday?? If that was the intent it backfired badly and only served to fire up the blood of Mayo."
I see. "I don't agree with this stuff yet I have to ask questions of Dublin". Intetesting angle you have there.

Yes RTÉ panel very silent on all the carry-on. Now, if it had been Seán Cavanagh or any other Tyrone player doing similar stuff, Brolly would have spontaneously combusted!

Replying To pdempsey:  "A lot of these incidents are being blown out of proportion from what I can see. There wasn't one proper punch thrown so we should all relax. McCarthy should not have got a black card - O'Connor made the most of the minimal contact. McAuley should've got yellow for his tackle on Cillian (which I think he did). The rest of the tackles were fairly innocuous and didn't deserve any action.
Keegan and Connolly were no better or worse than each other. Neither wanted to back down in the "I can hold onto your jersey for longer than you can hold onto mine" stakes."
Spot on its easy to get carried away, over analyzing every detail microscopically.

Unlike a lot of you on here i actually know what happened in the tunnel. Regardless if a team was late or not it gives nobody the right to throw slaps.

Well I don't think it unfair to ask why Dublin were so late into the field and why they were let be so late, I think that's a fair couple of questions given that the said lateness was a contributing factor in the "schmozzle". Of course that gave no Mayo player a reason to get physical either but it was all easily avoidable should not have been let happen on our showpiece day.

Lads, lads lads.....can we not stick to MDMC's tackle on this thread and leave other incidents to other threads.
Red card or no red card?
Citing officer or no citing officer for championship matches?

Mc Carthys card was spot on
If that carry on is let go then it's a free for all
Straight and simple ---- ITS A BLACK CARD TO IMPEDE ANOTHER PLAYER , to stop another players run , tripping etc.
What McCarthy done was stop O Connor getting in a tackle on another player. That is not within the rules and it can't be allowed.
Fair enough lots of things happened and indeed other players were hauled down with the man committing the foul escaping punishment. To cut all this out video must be used and offenders punished.
It's impossible for refstokeep up with everything and a few more black cards should have been issued.

Originally I'd thought the same. I checked the rules though and he should only have gotten noted.

Noting Infractions

1. To hold an opponent with the hand(s).
2. To use the fist on or around the body of an opponent for the purpose of dispossessing him of the ball.
3. To charge an opponent in the back or to the front.
4. To charge an opponent:
i. Who is not in possession of the ball, or
ii. Is in the act of kicking the ball, or
iii. If both players are not moving in the direction of the ball to play it.
5. To charge an opponent for the purpose of giving an advantage to a team-mate.
Noting Infractions remain unchanged - Two Notings result in a Caution (Yellow Card) with a third resulting in an Order Off (second Yellow, followed by Red).

I imagine the officials black carded McCarthy under rule 5.12 to deliberately body collide with an opponent after he has played the ball away OR for the purpose of taking him out of the movement of play

Opponent wasn't in possession of the ball at any stage. Dublin had possession. If anyone intentionally collided it was the opponent.

Agree if Tyrone or Donegal esp the former had done this or what Detmot Connolly seems to do and get off with every week there would be an outcry - Joe would burst a vessel live on TV. Can't they look at themselves on TV and see how hypocritical there are?

I think that describes really well what happened. It's only a noting.

It's open to that interpretation Whammo but clearly the officials took the other view.

Thought the black card was harsh until I watched the incident on TV on Monday and yes it was correct, a black card is given for a 3rd man tackle/ deliberately blocking another player from making a tackle so the ref got that correct, as for Michael darragh that was a straight red, ref copped out, a bigger problem is people on the sidelines constantly complaining to the sideline officials, Bernard Dunne was constantly at it through the whole game

The use of the word "deliberately" renders the rule unworkable, that is a matter of opinion, one ref can see it as "dliberate" another ref sees it as "accidental" as with all Gaelic football rules - surreal.

Nothing about Lee Keegan pulling Sean Cavanagh to the ground for no reason other than to get him a Yellow or Black card in the Tyrone game, CoC rolling around feigning injury on the ground so James Mc Carthy would get sent off either, or that if AOS didn't dive in the Fermanagh game they probably would have won, and how the cccc let him away with it.

nothing about McAuleys 4 x Cardable offences the last day.

He was the one player from either team who should have certainly gone the last day.

If you want to get into history we could go back through Connolly and Phillys disciplinary records if you like.
