Should Mayo Warm Up At The Hill

Replying To avonali:  "The sheer prejudice and ignorance evident in a post like this is utterly jaw-dropping. It's hard to believe that in a so-called educated country like Ireland that people can spew such stuff. Depressing."
Same could be said for most of the threads started by Dublin posters in the past week or so. What goes around...

Another great thread from a Mayo man this time, zzzzzzz. First of all the element of surprise is gone as it has been done before. Second of all even if by some mess up with the running order Mayo got out first and went to the hill Dublin would not care on jot. They would toddle off down the other end and go about their business. I found the antics of the Dublin team and management of the 06 time cringy, and Pillar Caffrey was no loss to anyone and a few players with him. The Dubs under Gilroy changed big time and Gavin has continued it, and fair play to them for the professionalism they show.

The voice of reason as usual! I too found that day cringey.

If Mayo think warming up in front of the hill will help them during the 70 minutes then it's game over already

That had nothing to do with them winning the game.
Sure Dublin were seven points up with about 15 minutes to go that day.
so it didn't have any effect on getting mayo into a winning position

Amen Brother. I still wince every time I picture the team walking arm in arm down the pitch. Dark, dark days.

Pillar was there along time with Dublin senior team under Lyons and then manager himself between 05-08 he won four Leinster titles and twice narrowly missed out on getting to all ireland finals.
he tried to tap into the crowd to try gain an edge maybe it worked and maybe it didn't who's to say. Lyons was similiar in his first year and it certainly built momentum and confidence and having not won a leinster title for seven years he achieved that feat and was only a point off making the all ireland final that year.
managers in all sport a try things to gain and edge aswell as players. Tyrone players didn't shave while they were winning one year, mayo players died there hair blonde to match the latest singing sensation slim shady , davy fitz played mel gibsons braveheart speech in the dressing room and only recently man utd players had to be banned from playing pokemon go within 48 hours of matches.
so pillar was hardly the first to try gain an edge and he certainly won't be the last.

I admire hugely the work of this dublin team and their gracious manager jim gavin, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the vast majority of their jonny come lately supporters, expect the throw in to be around 345 by the time all the dubs finally get in to croke park...........the early game on sky's super sunday should be over by then............"
Excellent post, cutting through all the bull and completely based on facts.
Ah,lovely Leitrim, you really have brought some much needed gombeenism to this fair forum.
Any more where that came from ?

You can defend him all you like, but the atmosphere around Dublin match days at the time was not good. And I worked in the bars around Croker back then as a student so I know how much things have changed. There was nothing to admire about the Dubs back then, that has changed due to the reality check they gave themselves and the sponsors have come flying in since then become they want to be part of the what is going on now. Stuff like the blue book and Braveheart speeches are a thing of the past. In fact, I can't see Davy having any more success as a manger either. Players only buy into that stuff short term.

No. By antagonising your opponent in a childish way, all you do is you reduce his nerves, hand him some cheap motivation - and let everyone see that you're more focussed on making points instead of scoring points.

If you plan to punch someone on the face, speak politely to them beforehand. (Watch any professional big city doorman dealing with a slobbering drunk - they never hand the louts any cheap motivation before dispatching them.)

Wouldn't make the slightest difference where either team warm up, they'd be so tuned in and focused, it's knock the Mayo lads would want to warming up at, not the hill

Somehow I think Gavin has a plan for this already.

Part of the process :).

Role on Sunday.
