Music at the end of matches

Boro I think this thread proves you are a in a minority I am afraid. I couldn't tell what song is played after any match in Croke Park. And neither do the players. It is here to stay so you might as well get used to it.

Not a fan of it. maybe wait til the captain lifts the cup would be better.

Replying To unclegerry:  "It adds to the atmosphere for the winning team IMO. Whats the alternative? Silence?"
Seeing as how tens of thousands of fans of the winning team would be cheering you can be sure silence wouldnt be an issue.

Janesboro, I started a similar thread here 2 years ago after that KK-Limerick semi-final about the incessant and blaring music played at Croke Park before and after matches and at half-time. I see you commented as well! Maybe I was in bad form that day but I think they've toned it down since then? All I remember that day was that I couldn't have a conversation in comfort before the match such was the volume, and that the music was blaring right through the players' warm-up and right up until just before the ref threw the ball in! Doesn't seem to be as bad since then, it just seemed particularly bad that day.

I remember "cool for cats" too - cringeworthy.

Firstly bally commiserations on your loss -dont think the music is as loud as 2014 but it was certainly loud enought to notice is and to be honest nobody has explained to me how it adds to the experience
Some interesting comments from previous thread are below

I don't want to be listening to them after the Dubs have won and it drowns out the celebrations of the crowd. Another bad habit picked up from corporate sports in England and the States.-- hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts:6978 - 10/08/2014 18:43:04 1634449

Agree re the awful music played over the loudspeakers yesterday. Certainly did not add to the enjoyment of a cracking game of hurling played in terrible conditions. CamanAbu (Roscommon) - Posts:1 - 11/08/2014 08:07:20 1634688

A truly detestable side of the Croke Park experience.--MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts:4024 - 11/08/2014 09:05:01 1634703
The crowd creates the atmosphere not the PA ramor101 (Cavan) - Posts:210 - 11/08/2014 09:30:48 1634722

You had a big bunch of Limerick supporters on Hill 16 who were giving it socks but you couldn't hear them because of the blare. I don't know if this is a US influenced thing or not but I do to a lot of games in Munster and I find the Croke Park experience deeply alienating.

Yesterday, after feeling like my guts were being sliced by a hacksaw on the final whistle, the PA system played 'cool for cats'. It did just enough to raise a smile, but overall I;'d like the music to go too. It's not needed. Maybe a tune here or there but the constant noise actually takes away from the atmosphere. Players & fans create the atmosphere.

lads i dont mean to be a kill joy or anything but i fail to see how it adds to the occasion having lads in tears on the pitch (or worse 17/18 year olds) with the opposition team song blaring out, to me its akin to rubbing the defeat in, i know the winning team has the right to celebrate but the losing team has the right to a bit of respect too, When Offaly won 81 or Clare won 95 - there was no music played and i think both sets of players and fans didnt need any music to embellish their enjoyment or memories from the day, The time to have a county song after an all ireland is after the captains speech and give somebody a mike and let them sing it, by that time the opposition has had a few minutes to let in sink in and can head to the dressing room.

Ah here this is mrs lovejoy wont someone think of the children territory.
It is in no way rubbing the defeat in. A player on either winning or losing side wont care at all about the song playing. The crowd wont make any noise bar directly after final whistle. Music works.
but i did think it was disgraceful watching our players in bits, in tears lying on the ground with a pop song being blared over the tannoys , there is no need for it and i found it sickening- its a match not a pop concert , kilkenny fans around us were equally appalled -they couldnt even cheer their team off the pitch coz they were drowned out
janesboro (Limerick) - Posts:627 - 06/09/2016 14:13:52
The players would still be in tears after a game and a song being played on PA wont change that. The fans could cheer if they wanted to and fans cheering wont last that long so something is needed

If is doesnt make the winning players feel better or if the song is stupid - then why play it -its needless
janesboro (Limerick) - Posts:627 - 06/09/2016 14:02:11
Why not contact GAA about it? If you feel so strongly about it?
It isn't needless. Fans wont make that much noise and playing a song works well.

why is something needed - does it attract more fans to a game maybe

ormond-- The fans could cheer if they wanted to and fans cheering wont last that long so something is needed

So your telling me that when clare won in 1995 or 1997 that the occasion "needed something" or wasnt as good because they didnt play "lovely rose of clare over the tannoy" - i dont think so

ormond i also asked you If is doesnt make the winning players feel better or if the song is stupid (as you stated in a previous post) - then why play it -its needless

this is not just a phenomenon for the gaa at england rugby game they play some silly song after each england try which drowns out the crowd cheering -- equally dire in my view

no it is not , i happen to believe defeated players deserve respect and playing the opposition team song the second the game is over is totally disrespectful in my view.

more comments from page 2 of the previous thread very interesting
hy bother with the music, we create an atmosphere with roaring and flags and as others have said, blaring music only serves to drown that out.

I'm not saying this because i'm from Limeick, but to blast out cool for cats straight after the final whistle with some Limerick players distraught and devastated on the pitch itself was in my view appalling.

well lads its a bad state of affairs if we have to rely on music to create atmosphere after your team wins an all ireland - what happened to letting the crowd applaud cheer and clap and roar

for me it made the day worse- hearing it blared out when our minors were in tears on the pitch and when tipp supporters were trying to applaud their team after winning minors - if limerick had won it would be equally as wrong to play limerick your a lady

You are obviously more into the music than the hurling- I would have thought as a supporter winning is in orders of magnitude above anything else on the day. The point I have made previously is that it adds nothing to most attendees and it is not music irrespective of the song - it is just distorted sound which most of us call noise being blared thru a speaker at high volume. Music is for concerts/festivals/radio etc. and has little place at a football or hurling match
