Liam, you questioned me on this already directly and I answered you. I have no gripe with the fact that Dublin won the game. Can we just be factual and argue the points made rather than make these unfounded assumptions?

Not one Meath man would make out minor team let alone the senior team. chicago09 (Kerry) - Posts: 694 - 30/08/2016 16:50:25 1908227 Link 0 |
Cavanman, I dont believe you! I have perused most match threads at this stage and on nearly all of them your bitching and moaning saying Dublin get this, Dublin get that, Dubs are this, Dubs are that. It so obvious due to the fact your not from the county directly affected by your so called bias, and I put it to you that if the game went exactly the same way, but the teams/decisions were reversed, you wouldnt have a problem in the world with what when on. Dont worry tho, your not alone! There's many more like u! Just its noticable that the vast majority of them are NOT from Kerry! As your county is Cork I'm going to presume you referee in Cork as well, please correct me if I'm wrong. If your club is in the senior county championship, why wouldn't the Cork County Board simply ask you to referee their games? It is because the GAA want to not only be impartial but also appear to be impartial. Also are you actually comparing lack of referees available for underage games and challenge matches to the All-Ireland Championship? There is hardly a shortage of willing referees that would take up the All-Ireland semi final compared to under 10s club games in Mallow. Gough is from Meath, he lives and works in Dublin therefore he should be allowed to referee any pairing of all the other counties. He would have been free to referee Tipperary v Mayo semi final. This way the GAA is not opening themselves to accusations of bias and neither can the referee. This actually protects the referee. I never said that the referee was dishonest, I said subconsciously decisions 50/50 are more likely to go the way of the area you can connected with. Subconscious is not intending to deceive. Also, you honestly believe that my view is automatically not valid as I'm not a referee. That's a lazy excuse and you know it. If someone is singing and they can't sing or continously miss notes, then you aren't allowed to comment on that as you dont have a music recording contract. You are entitled to your opinion as am I. Some lads here need to stop sniping at each other. Mocking Meath doesn't have anything to do with this thread, and more importantly, mocking other counties is petty. Come on lads. CletusVanDamme (Kerry) - Posts: 63 - 30/08/2016 17:44:46 1908265 Link 0 |
Agree 100% however Royal puts the boot into Kerry at any opportunity, I don't normally get involved in slagging matches but it's a bit rich having a meath man insulting Kerry.

Agree, optics mean a lot and so does the sub-concious. The optics of having a St. Jude's Club member and a teacher in St. Pious' in Templeogue refereeing a Dublin Inertcounty Chamionship match is questionable, Yes the man was born & reared in Meath but is now living and working in Dublin so should not have been considered for Sunday's game. As is natural he got a few calls wrong but no more so than any other referee would have done (and much fewer than most) but in a very tight game these decisions are forensically dissected and naturally in some supporters eyes an element of bias will be alleged due to the aforementioned domiciliary arrangements of the man. Thus what should not have been an issue suddenly becomes an issue. Any referee appointed for a championship match should have no close link with either county involved either through domicile, work or club memberrship. dingle2 (Kerry) - Posts: 278 - 30/08/2016 19:58:52 1908336 Link 0 |
Would the same apply to the big fella who ran into the field in Limerick?

He without sin cast the first stone. Case and point, Mayo "fans" during and after the replay in 14 in Limerick. All counties unfortunately have the same few idiots that tarnish the reputation of all fans. Your proposed punishment is disproportionate to the event. 500,000 is fairly large for premier league teams nevermind amateur sports. It would bankrupt some counties. Why ban them from Croke Park only? How do you police that? The tickets go on general sale for most games. I believe that a fine is fair but not excessive, ban the offenders, not the county as a whole.

Someone that throws an object at a referee should get a lifetime ban - its as simple as that. Doesnt matter where hes from or who he is - get rid of him/her. TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 30/08/2016 21:02:10 1908371 Link 1 |
Lads stop saying gough is a member of St Judes. Its simply not true. He is not and never has. Its a lie being peddled by outsiders to make a false point to suit their bullshit theories Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 30/08/2016 21:16:15 1908383 Link 0 |
Kerry should be made play their opening Munster Championship match wearing their football boots on the wrong feet... They'll still hammer the pick of Munster but at least they might get a few blisters! jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20601 - 30/08/2016 21:31:25 1908395 Link 0 |

I said I have refereed - not that I am a referee. You probably are a better referee than I am. The point I was making (and which you agree with it seems) is that referees go out with honest intentions regardless of where they are from. Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I simply disagree with equating a few errors (which he certainly made and which are very easy for any of us to point out in hindsight) to having a bad game. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 30/08/2016 22:03:28 1908409 Link 0 |
Disgrace what happened to gough but your own county board allow more attacks on refs and when players and officials appeall get off .give you prime example a hurler kicked a ref got off how ? A member of hearings committee abuses refs on and off the field but gets off .so please sort your own house in order before coming on here . Though gough is a top lad and ref

You won. Most people accept that was a fair result. Let the authorities deal with those who didn't. plike (Kerry) - Posts: 569 - 31/08/2016 10:44:31 1908556 Link 0 |
True. Sorry for giving the Meath lads a bit of a rough time. You should never mock the afflicted (or challenge the affected )!

Is it only soccer in England and Scotland that sees segregation enforced then? The Italians, Russians, Argentinians, Turks etc etc never caught the disease? If someone was caught on CCTV at West Ham or Millwall (two clubs I have no time for having been on the receiving end by the way) chucking something at the ref, they'd be banned for as long as the club could get away with it. They may also find themselves on a list of people required to surrender their passport when internationals are played. There's no way it'd be brushed under the carpet. I suspect that might be the approach of the authorities regards Sunday's incident, though. MedwayIrish (Wexford) - Posts: 2324 - 31/08/2016 11:06:07 1908577 Link 0 |
