Replying To ormondbannerman:  "I think you'll find the perimeter fences erected to prevent the pitch invasions have caused more tragedy to be fair Ormond.

I never mentioned perimeter fences though.
Perimeter fences are only in some grounds and while they should be got rid of. Pitch invasions have to be stopped
always lovely to go on to pitch after game and have puck about with kids and see other dads/kids having puck around, most grounds let you do it - if you get a chance do it in thurles it would inspire you
Most people go on to the pitch in an orderly manner and there usually isnt a problem the players are delighted to mingle with the fans and are always very appreciative of the support. Was on pitch with kids in thurles after semi final and after munster final in gaelic grounds on wet day - neither pitch showed any sign of damage - was on pitch after 21s final last year - players hung around signing autographs getting pics taken , they seemed to enjoy it - pics with the cup -brilliant and no harm done. id say a concert could damage a pitch more, kids got to meet and greet some of the current tipp and kilkenny legends which living in limerick we dont see to often

What gives you the right to go onto a pitch anyway? Just because some people do go on in an orderly fashion doesn't mean they deserve to. The end of a big game isn't the right time for a puck around and if you want to have a puck around you can do it at any time. Players can be appreciative of the support at times but there is too much of a chance for trouble and issues to arise.
Most people who go on to pitch do so in orderly manner and dont fit the above stereotype - i certainly dont

Unfortunately too many do fit it and pitch invasions should be stopped due to risks involved."
Jaysus, anti banter risk assessment patrol is strong here.

I love pitch invasions after an All-Ireland win.Things like this separates us from Professional sport . You would be beaten by Ronaldo's bodyguards before you get a chance to slap him on the back for having a good game if you tried to go onto the pitch after a game.

Like the other poster say.Risk is higher for trying to stop invasions , just ask the families of the Hillsborough disaster.

This is nothing to do with banter. Pitch invasions cause hassle to a lot of people. Players should be allowed celebrate in the immediacy of a win with their team mates and close family. And not simply the quickest person who runs onto the pitch from the stand.
If you want to thank a player do so as they leave the ground or in the days after the game when they get to their home county with the cup.
The moments after a big win are special but should be left to the players, management to celebrate with their families

-if they only letting close family on to pitch then unless they are issued with id how will the steward know who is close family, what about friends, club mates coaches, are supporters not allowed enjoy a win too
