Why is it derelict ? I don't know the reason/story behind it. Could someone fill me in ? Pity to see it the way it is.

It's being reclaimed by nature of course.

Antrim GAA should answer that question!

Surely they should be hosting club championship fixtures there right now.

Have they just decided not to maintain the venue? And why?

If that's the way they're treating their main ground then methinks the money set aside for the redevelopment could be put to better use elsewhere!

residents protests were upheld in court but this makes no sense everybody would benefit from a state of the art stadium in Ireland's second largest city

It's a joke. Us clubs are playing championship matches in poor club pitches. Casement used to host majority of senior championship matches ...as well as juvenile and junior, intermediate etc.

It is just lying derelict...awful.

Such a class pitch

My da actually had his first 3 years of primary school in Casement changing rooms...true Story! Played on the pitch at lunchtime
There are more classrooms in belfast these days Thank God!

It is sad to see the old ground in the state it is but things are moving on. There is currently an ongoing consultation process that is open to anyone who wants to submit an opinion or concern on any new build stadium. Croke Park, the Ulster Council and Antrim board are determined to involve EVERYONE and address EVERY concern and plans are afoot to start building in 2017. I expect that new plans, especially the height of stands, will be scaled back a bit to address residents concerns on sunlight on their homes and new entrances, exits and safety will take up a lot of the new plans. Ulster and Belfast need a modern stadium in order for us to compete with other sports in the 21st century. I know many people are worried about history and atmosphere being neglected re: Clones etc but just a few miles across the motorway from Casement a brand new Windsor Park is emerging that can be seen from EVERY part of the city. People I know from the Unionist tradition who follow Northern Ireland and Linfield are absolutely delighted at the new stadium and they are not people you could accuse of neglecting their 'history'. Some resentful, bitter rural anti-Antrim and anti-Belfast GAA folk could take heed.

Your last line there is intriguing, Ulsterman...."bitter rural, anti-Antrim, anti Belfast, GAA people".........are you referring to GAA people in other Ulster counties? Cos surely rural GAA folk in Antrim are, at the very least, going to be pro Antrim even if some of them might not have much of a liking for Belfast.

I am Pool. There are very some very jealous, resentful people within Ulster GAA circles who would rather see Casement binned altogether than Belfast get the main Ulster GAA stadium. I know there is a strong anti-Belfast element in Tyrone and Armagh. It's hilarious and hypocritical at the same time because many of the anywhere but Belfast Ulster brigade are the same ones holding down cushy, well paid Civil Service, teaching and NHS jobs in Belfast.

I think we all know that Celtic Park should be the home of Ulster football though they just need to demolish the Brandywell to make a car park first.

Come to think of it Owenbeg could be a could place for a major stadium at Derrys training facility

The truth is nobody wants to into that mess of traffic and no parking areas in Belfast to watch games, we should develop a pitch somewhere in the middle of Ulster that's hand for everyone.supose they GAA will go with whatever returns the most cash for the suits as per usual.

"That mess of traffic"!! Are you for real? When was the last time you were in Clones? Casement is going to be THE stadium in Ulster; get used to it folks. We may not even steal your cars if you behave yourselves in the big smoke.

If Antrim win next year's Ring and get a home draw in the qualifiers, it'll be a shame not to be playing in their home ground.

Only Belfast people could complain about more jobs, money and investment coming in due to an opinion it may block some of their sun. I haven't seen the sun in Belfast for years

Have you been to UUJ or Queens? I don't see many anti Belfast people. I'm sure many after uni would like to return home but due to the vast majority of jobs going to Belfast due to poor roads in the rest of north there isn't much we can do.
