Football first,i think what is happening is that people only go to see their own county.if i can see waterford v kilkenny on telly, why would i drive to thurles and pay 30-40 quid in? i think a few things have changed. people's perception of effort being the largest one.but because lifestyles have changed re commuting, etc people aren't bothered getting into the car on a sunday again. back in the 80-90's,the only way to see the match was to go to it.but it was also a big day out, because people only went to hurling.i was never at a rugby match before i was about 18-19-20. i don't buy the cost argument, going to a gaa match is cheaper than a night out by the time people pay for a babysitter, taxi, etc. i think the biggest downfall of the gaa is their lack of promotion of our games.there should be billboards, local radio promotions, free tickets for clubs who bring busloads of children, etc.instead of just some stupid "paint your face and your house" advert.people just brush over that. but above all,the championship structures need to change to create a few novel pairings again.for example,i have never been in pairc ui chaomh, killarney, salthill, etc, etc in either code following wexford.people are bored of the current system and it needs to change. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 19/08/2016 15:30:49 1903248 Link 0 |

hillman dont know if you were at either game - i was at both of them ( we were in minors so didnt go as neutral) , there was couple of thousand limerick & dublin (prob more limerick) but was mostly fans of either county, same in thurles following week - just seems that not a lot of neutrals are going to games janesboro (Limerick) - Posts: 1502 - 19/08/2016 22:48:25 1903399 Link 0 |
