Unfair allocation of GAA money yet again

Replying To beir_bua:  "€125,000 per annum for each county over 3 years is my understanding."
So while Dublin get their million plus yearly, 4 surrounding counties get just over 100k and the rest pennies.

125k would fund about 5 full time coaches annually. I'm sorry but this ain't going to cut it.

Replying To if_in_doubt:  "Delighted with this announcement, definitely makes sense for investment in counties like Kildare and Meath with they're growing populations.

There's already over 120 full time coaches in Leinster and 125k will easily fund 3 more (the application process for development officer jobs has already started) and go a long way to training up more coaches, refs and volunteers roughly 2,000 people going through programmes with Leinster GAA each year is great to see.

The money here is going to be ring-fenced for specific projects / roles - counties won't just be allowed spend it on whatever they want.

There was a thread on here recently that included the population of each of the division 1 teams along with Kildare and Meath, another thread mentioned the fact that Kerry only have 6 GDA's. Considering both Kildare and Meath have bigger populations than Kerry and currently have fewer GDA's than them it's good to see this is going to be addressed. Kerry's population is roughly 66% of Kildare's and 75% of Meath's yet they have more GDA's - don't see how anybody could think that's fair.

Slightly off topic, there were over 1,500 applications made to the sports capital unit in 2015, less than 70 of these were made by Kildare bodies and the figure for Meath was pretty similar. Again the awarding of these grants is based on the quality of the application among other factors. Counties, clubs and sports bodies aren't going to get significant sums of money handed to them without question - prove you can spend it smartly and get a return on it and you'll be rewarded in the future. Whinge about others getting money instead of looking at why they're getting it instead of you and you're not going to change much."
A little off topic and I don't want to turn this into a Dublin bashing commentary but I'd like to address a lot of the people pointing at the large populations of Meath and Kildare and why they should be reaping further success.

First of all Meath and Kildare didn't traditionally have huge populations, in the past 20 years or so small villages have been transformed into very large townlands mainly due to the large influx of Dublin based people moving out to the "Country". That's all fine but I happen to live in one of these areas in Meath that has been hugely transformed beyond recognition to what I grew up in, now my main point is most of them families have had children and their children have had children and some of them have had children. These populations have boosted the club scene in these towns to the point where traditional junior clubs are competing at senior level now. This however doesn't translate to the county scene.

At any given Sunday morning in my club you can easily expect to see as many Dublin jerseys on children running around as Meath jerseys if not more, now there is any argument that this is due to the success of Dublin in recent years but I don't really buy into that because it was just as bad in the noughties when Dublin weren't winning AIs. The point of my post is these large population increases have NOT increased the amount of underage selection possibilities for Meath and Kildare in my opinion.

If this money can be used to impact the kids who actually are into Meath football then I welcome it but I think anybody questioning the population of Meath should spend a few days around the boarder clubs to see what I'm talking about.

So this is a typical GAA answer to a complete imbalance that was fine for years and the media seen no issue with it or gave no coverage until this year. I've been banging on about it on here and you get the typical response from dubs so at least this is some sort of action. But as with the current situation this is just more stupidity.there is no logic to what is now and what is proposed and in our country wiping the slate and drawing up proper rules is impossible because you can't go back on the promises to few. Sort it out as a rule not some kind of handout system.

The new championship format proposed by Duffy confirms for me that revenue is what dictates the way the GAA is run. He proposes more games for the top eight, and the rest can go to hell. They should get rid of the provinicial championship and the provincial councils.
