You get to the quarters/semi through qualifiers, you are battle hardened if you win. If you lose you were tired. You win your provincial title (except Ulster), you win you quarter and you haven't been tested. You lose its because you haven't been tested. Missing their best three defenders, their best midfielder playing with a damaged jaw, two men sent off, Brogan off his game and they still beat a good Donegal team. The rest of us are just making up the numbers, we're lining up like lambs to the slaughter. Truthfully, I'm a fair weather fan who knows little enough when the conversation gets technical BUT I have noticed one thing: you sometimes lose the ones you "should" win; you occasionally win the ones you "should" lose. It's a game. It does change. It gets more technical. Better preparation and organisation is now a given. Still, it's all about performance on any given day.
