Is no lucky all-irelands a myth?

Of course luck plays a part but usually over time the cream rises to the top. We (Meath) could be seen to have had a good comeback and a bit of luck to beat Mayo in 96, but by that Meath team staying at the top for a few years after, winning comprehensively in 1999 and getting to another final showed that team was one of the best teams around at that time.
People talk of many of Kerrys All Irelands since 1997 being lucky because they were won against teams who did not perform well/ weaker teams. Again if you think about this this is ridiculous. Kerry, because of their level of consistency were always there or there abouts, the mark of a great team. Its no fluke that they are always the team in position to take advantage of these situations/ get well ahead of teams early on in finals.

There's very little difference between at the top.

Sometimes a little luck here or there will be the difference.

Most teams winning an All Ireland in my lifetime and definitely since the qualifiers were brought in has deserved it. They may have gotten a bit of luck in the year that they won but they've always been teams there or there abouts either immediately before or after their break through.

Replying To bdbuddah:  "Do (Did?) Bray Emmett's play in Dublin or Wicklow Championship ?"
Bray Emmetts current pitch is in Old Conna which to my best of knowledge is just inside the Dublin boundary. The old Emmetts pitch pre-2001 was just off Bray main street on Novara Road well inside County Wicklow. Bray Emmetts due to long travel distances inside County Wicklow played in the Dublin Championship from 1899-1933. They re-entered the Wicklow Championship in 1934.

The game was refixed following an objection by Tipperary, Kilkenny refused to play, so the match was awarded to Tipperary. Tipperary went on to win the All Ireland final beating Galway 2-20 to 0-1."
Or what about Kerry winning the 1891 hurling, ref blew as a Wexford shot was sailing over the bar. Kerry won in extra-time."]I'm still bitter over that. In fact, it really turned me off football back then....."]Pinkie
In the Munster Final that year LK easily beat KY the first game, but Kerry objected and won the replay. Do you remember 2001 when ye had a bit of luck against LK but against Tipp, in the next game, Paul Codd, the best forward in Ireland at the time, had the ball in his hand fifty yards out from goal when Pat O'Connor blew the whistle to make a draw of it. If he had let it flow Tipp were almost certainly gone.
