David Fitzgerald's Behaviour

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The supposed give respect get respect initiative for treating referees with respect is again been made a mockery of by the GAA who refuse to deal with Davy Fitzgerald and put him into the stands for his continual abuse of officials.

People wonder why people at all levels abuse officials but when they see one of the most high profile figures in the game and get away it for the entirety of his managerial career it doesn't exactly set a great example.

He should have been suspended for it a long time ago.

3 championship seasons since they nicked that All Ireland. Two wins, against Laois and Offaly. Manic, erratic behaviour on the sideline. Think for the sake of this talented group of Clare players and linesmen everywhere it's time that Davy rode off in to the sunset!

Thoughts Clare fans? At the moment ye rank about 5th in the country and the talent is there to actually win another All Ireland...

I'm guessing i'm the only person who likes Davey fitz? Great to see a bit of passion on the sideline. Very impressed with his post match interview here.

In fairness to Davy Fitz he showed class and perspective in his post match interview - he's never going to be bland personality and the likes of him and Ger bring a bit of grit and passion to the game.

Referee should have taken action, and sent him to a seat in the stand.

Will Davy continue? Clare have been terrible in championship since they won the All Ireland nearly three years ago.

You're not the only one gotmilk. I like him too. Don't know why all the PC people are getting so upset about. He was right to lose the rag in the first half and give off to the linesman because he had made the wrong decision. Passion. We need more of it in our games.

There is a difference between passion and abusing the officials.

You can show passion on the sideline as many managers have without abusing the officials.

Also I tend to agree with the view that if your roaring and shouting during the game you are not focused or composed enough and haven't done the necessary work in training.Mickey Hart has said something similar in the past.

Every clare match you just have to laugh at the sideline stuff.

In carlow, we had one of our best players suspended for 3 months due to verbal abuse
of a ref in a kehoe cup game.

Last year our football manager got the same suspension for disputing a score
against offaly in a league match.

But different rules for different folks i guess.

Passion is one thing gotmilk. But I've seen Davy screaming abuse at linesmen, opposition managers and players and refs one too many times. Dalo is pretty passionate, Eamon O'Shea for all his hurling intellect used to engage in a lot of fist pumping too. Davy for me goes too far.

Joe Canning's interview was the classiest I have ever heard. There was no triumphalism. He said that there were more important things in life that hurling which he described as " a hobby we do"). Her referenced Davy and said he was glad to see him back on the sideline again after his scare.

I have always admires Joe for his hurling and his attitude and this interview had solidified that admiration.

He is what he is, he's passionate and dedicated and brings a bit of excitement to proceedings so I've no problem with it, perhaps if all these referees, linesmen and umpires and their committees all actually admitted when they made mistakes instead of being defended by blind officialdom then they would get more respect, some of the decision making is ludicrous and whilst I'm certainly not one to condone abusing officials at times I'm not surprised that frustration boils over. Dissapointing defeat for Clare today but it's been there best year since 2013 with winning the league and undoubtedly I would say preperations this week weren't perfect. I expect to see Davy and Donal Og on the line again next year.

His behaviour is way over the top - if u saw someone acting like that in the stand you'd be laughing at him. if he's not capable of controlling himself he shouldn't be there. Fire in the belly cool heads.

Leave Davey alone. His one of the most animated managers in the game and I've seen worse at an under 12 match.
His eats ,drink and s&&ts every ball. Every decision counts we seen it all before 1 bad decision can turn a game.
Not saying his behavior is great but I love his passion even if it's OTT.
remember Davey having to put up with abuse as a player himself not that he was a saint he was able to stick up for himself.
Some character in fairness I love it.

You having seen worse at an under 12 match is exactly the problem.

Your attitude is exactly the problem.

We'll never rid the association of abuse of referee, people coming onto the field, attempted assaults on referees if we don't accept that they are human can make mistakes and should be able to do their job without abuse being shouted at them and they being bullied by managers .A thing which Davy should know about since he was bullied in school himself but yet seems to think it is OK for him to bully officials when he is a manager.

Are u having a laugh kid??my attitude??
I never once mentioned anything about Davey abusing officials I stated he was animated and will die for the cause.
I condone any abuse on officials my post refers to his animated antics which is a pure laugh.
Christ man take a chill pill.
