I don't know how you define the strongest province but I certainly take great pride and enjoyment in Tyrone winning Ulster by beating Derry, Cavan and Donegal. It was a great relief that despite qualifying for two All-Ireland semi-finals in the meantime we had failed to win Ulster in six years.

Put Kerry in Ulster instead of say Fermanagh and they wouldn't have half as many All-Irelands."
Don't make me quote the Munster vs Ulster results of the 70's and 80's again, DON'T

Replying To gormdubhgorm:  "I think Dublin would beat any combination of the rest of leinster, maybe even the rest of the country.
it should be considered it's own province and be taken out of leinster :)

I would tend to slightly agree with another poster Munster have the potential to be the strongest province if Clare and Tipp consider thier surge in football over a sustained period.

If it is solely viewed from a football point of view ulster is still the strongest province despite the drastic dip in class of thier teams.

If it viewed solely in terms of hurling I think Leinster pips Munster because you have Kilkenny, Dublin, Galway and a resurgent Wexford.
In munster Cork hurling is struggling and Waterford and Clare just make noise in munster most of time and little else barring Clare's lucky all-ireland win a few years ago."
Galway isn't in Leinster and when was the last time Dublin did anything noteworthy? Waterford & Clare are the two most recent league winners and there's no such thing as a lucky All-Ireland (as you well know)

I'm sorry but Galway are from Connacht, they had to be parachuted into Leinster because of how one-sided it was.

Cavan Slasher
If Kerry were in Ulster they would not win as many Ai
The cream always comes to the top its only in the last
few years Ulster got a little bit competitive prior to that
Ulster were fodder for the South After next week Tyrone
will be the only Ulster team standing we will have 4 Munster
teams in the qt finals and all we hear is Kerry have it easy..

Then again a lot of our fellas has other things on their minds in the 70's and 80's. Like trying not to get shot by Loyalists and the RUC/UDR going to and from games; watching our club houses burnt down and pipe bombs hung from the gates and windows; digging glass out of pitches; being held up for hours on end as the British Army spat on and threw out gear in to ditches; look on as Unionist councils funded 100's of rugby and soccer facilities (in their districts) as we got nothing. Indeed, as you say, let's not get into a discussion about that era.

Kytitletown, you seem well versed in statistics,7 counties in Ulster have a large non gaa participation community, so mathematically adjusting the figures to reflect this, you might find the province equates itself quite well on the gaa stage?

Who cares about results in the 70s and 80s. Most current players on all teams were not even born in the 70s. What is the cut off point of how far back in time we can go to make a statistical point????

Like most threads this is getting out of hand.
At the end of the day first is all that matters and second is last. At the minute that's the Dubs.

To the insular Kerry chap. Are you not a club man or why no mention of no club all Ireland in football for 12 years? and only 2 in the last 20!

1 hurling champ in the last 10.......same as ulster

7 years since the last munster team won u21 in football

Sure you are a strong province like anyone else but you see to pick and choose your facts as I have done here in order to try and fool some less skeptical people than myself.

Too bad the other provinces couldn't stop Tipp and Clare from getting to the last 8 and thus preventing another whinge at Kerry getting an 'easy' draw

Indeed it is the Dubs BUT if you send an opposition out armed with with bows and arrows to face a Dublin side armed with 16 million Euros for coaching; millions in advertising and sponsorship; the media in their backpockets; officials and the GAA in their front pocket and ALL their games in Dublin well it's not really a fair fight is it?

Kerry clubs have won 5 Intermediate Club All Irelands and 7 Junior All Irelands since those competitions were established or do only elite clubs tallies count?

Munster has the most Senior Football Club titles by the way with 17, Ulster next with 12 even with this dry patch at Senior Club level and are 1 behind at Senior Hurling Club one of the few categories Munster hasn't the most titles

Apart from winning 70 hurling all Irelands and 50 football all Irelands what have the Munster counties ever done?
