Venues for the qualifiers

"Mullingar was the obvious choice if it was available."

Agree Cavan isn't great for either team but Mullingar is an hour closer to Tipp so that isn't fair either

If you are driving from Derry to Tipp or Tipp to Derry the quickest way is through Dublin which is also roughly the half way point. Parnell would have been the logical option

Losing provincal finalists should be at home venue. End off.

That statement has no foundation or basis whatsoever, what gives them a right over a team who might have negotiated 3 rounds of qualifiers to get to the same stage of the competition.

DLlegends - Cusack Park in Mullingar only holds 11000. Mayo would fill it on their own. Longford only holds 4500. Hyde Park is closed. Unless Mayo got a home game there would not be any other venue suitable to hold it.

agree parnell park seems the most favourable venue, its probably a bit more of a trek from derry but good roads for both and more importantly a venue neither team would have much real expierience of.....one of my big gripes is that derry played in cavan last week and also in the league there this year, they have some form of familiarity of the ground already. From what ive heard the cccc were split on choice of venue on this and the vote fell to the chairman who is surpisingly a cavan man....ill be honest i cant back up that claim but its the way ive heard it from what id consider a reliable source. Anyway thats probably enough on it from me, as has been said playing derry saturday for a chance at making the last 12, its not the pitch that will beat us if we are to lose

I'd happily second that suggestion, as least this year anyway :)

Replying To county man:  "Agree. Tipp are being shafted big time here...very unfair....they are still good enough to come through though....would have feared Cavan more.
Salthill is also an advantage to Roscommon although not as much.

Makes no sense why a Leinster venue wasn't chosen alright"
In fairness salthill is nearer clare then it is to roscommon. Although 3 o clock on a Saturday is a advantage to no one. The gaa must not want people going to there games

Why not let teams toss for home advantage it would be handier for mayo to go to mullingar then to Dublin for example

Mullingar is not suitable for big games. Theres no car park and theres no 2nd pitch to do a warm up.

I don't know about that. Would Cusack Park really be able to cater for the demands of Westmeath and Mayo fans? The theory is good but it's not practical to apply in all cases so it wouldn't be fair to cherry pick certain instances.

Replying To Killarney.87:  "That's a joke from a Tipp point of view, we have been completely ripped off here.

Derry just played in Cavan over the weekend. It's a pitch they are more familiar with anyway as its in their own province.

The logical and fairer venue for this match was Mullingar."
to be fair it's probably the same distance to Cavan from Roscrea as it is from Derry city.

North of thurles youll be lucky to get a single car going, the match will hardly even be watch on tvs there.......south derry cant be too far from cavan. Hell of alot more benefit to derry playing in cavan which noone can deny and as ive said its done now so have to get on with it

Very Harsh on Tipp ....A joke of a venue choice from the CCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Double header won't attracth too many either....

I hear ticket Sales are very slow for Thurles this Sunday in the hurling the GAA may start looking at things regarding venues and prices...

The choice of Nolan Park for dublin v Laois really showed how they are dictated I'm delighted it back fired with Laois boycotting and the Dubs not filling their allocation!

Replying To sugar.daddy:  "Some people will find a way to complain about anything. So what happens for example if Mayo & Donegal win and they go on to meet Tyrone & the Dubs in Croke Park 6/7 days later, are you actually saying they would prefer to have played in Salthill or Tullamore 6/7 days previous as opposed to the same surface & environment they are accustomed to. Croke Park is the finest GAA arena we have in Ireland by a country mile and I for one treat it as a blessing when my county gets the opportunity to play there, some counties such as Carlow & Leitrim wait a lifetime for days like this. I genuinely feel its more than just a journey or a burden when your county gets to Croke Park, its one of those in-explainable days in the summer that just don't come around too often."
Agree with all points.
Great for players to get a feel for Croker.
Great for supporters, as it's a really enjoyable day out. Atmosphere always brilliant. Marvellous to be in such an impressive stadium and a huge sense of pride in our team for getting so far.
Bring it on!l

North of Thurles they have heard mention of a game called Gaelic Football from time to time but they are not sure what it is outside of Portroe, Borrisokane, Shannon Rovers, Ballina and maybe Inane Rocers because they've had the odd county man.

Tipp fans would barely go to Thurles to watch their football team so have little to complain here.

Croke park was the wrong venue yesterday. So empty you could hear the managers shouting.

Would have been better as a double header in salthill
