Loughnane tears into Galway

They were dead right to not join the panel if they felt they were wronged. Its a pity that more county players dont back their clubs and stand up to county management / county boards.

Replying To SamandLiamSoon:  "How about we just take 2015 as an example of Joe and his reputation. JC ended 2015 with a total of 5-55. Top scorer overall in the championship. Second top scorer from play. His 1-15 scored against Laois was the joint highest individual tally in one game along with Seamus Callanan. And yet no All Star. JC is set to such a high standard I don't know if anyone could live up to it. And the strangest part of it all is JC was poor in 2015. And that's even by his own admission. That's how good he is. And no Loughnane didn't see him up close and personal for two years because JC wouldn't play for him straight out of minor."
I don't claim to know that much about hurling but anytime I'm watching Galway I always find myself wanting Canning to play well. The reason being if he has an off day he seems to get alot of critism even if he still has ended the game with a big score tally. As you said he has set the standard so high that people expect too much from him all of the time. I couldn't believe he didn't get an all star last year. Usually the top scorer is guaranteed and all star. I sometimes see comparisons between Joe Canning and Michael Murphy in football. People always want more from them, they want to see them play FF for longer, nowadays they have to play the perfect game to get a motm award or any award for that matter, they are alot younger than some people think and I don't they'll will be fully appreciated until they are retired. I just hope Canning can win an All Ireland which he deserves!

Canning probably won't ever be good enough for some people until he single-handedly drags Galway to an All-Ireland, replicating his 2-12 score in the final, while also holding the defence together, dominating midfield and spending some time in goal too.

Would Waterford need a chat with themselves ? Are they "gutless" ? Galway put it up to Kilkenny for over sixty minutes last week. They didn't deserve the criticism they got . Nor do Waterford deserve to be demonised . No team goes out to get hammered and nobody will feel worse than the Waterford players tonight .

It says it all when Davy Fitz is tripping over himself to get sufficient distance from Ger's comments.

It will add a bit a of spice now to the Galway vs Clare match.

Ger is a Clare version of Babs. Ironically he would be disgusted with that comparison.

I presume you think your old county now need to have a chat with themselves after getting their 2nd 21 point hiding from Tipp in a final in 5 years?
I don't recall any other serious team getting a 21 point trimming once never mind twice!

I do yes...dont know what went wrong to be honest...im sure youll agree waterford are not that bad...just had an off day. They really want big chat as a display like that in a fortnight will see kk taking on wx next month.

Im pretty sure mcgrath will stick with the system though..id like to see them play 15 v 15 v wx to see how they get on and have an option, if they beat wx, to play 2 ways v kk.

Why did wee Davy feel the need to defend Loughnane's comments straight after the Clare v Limerick game?I know he was trying to nip any possible Galway anger in the bud early doors but this was not a Clare v Galway issue. It was one Clare man v Galway and Cannings issue. In my opinion there was no need for Davy to mention it at all.

Interesting to read Loughnane today say he thought the Clare v Limerick game was boring and a poor standard and if they don't improve Clare wont beat Galway. He was worried about the smallest half forward line to ever play for Clare. This is going to be a belter of a game.

It must be an Irish thing where Davy is terrified that Galway will use it as extra motivation.

I think Loughnane is right, Clare should be putting Limerick away if they are as good as they say they are. I think Galway are better than last year but couldn't close the gap on Kilkenny cos Kilkenny are also better than last year.

Conlan is the man for Clare on the wing.

Yea Conlon is a strong, physical wing forward. Not sure how Loughnane said Clare had their smallest half forward line ever with Conlon in it.Always good in the air and like all Clare's six forwards,he usually troubles the scoreboard.Podge covers some ground.Never stops moving and is fairly clinical in front of the posts.S O Donnel scored three good points.Shanagher was quiet compared to his goal blitz v Laois.T Kelly was good but we know he can be much better.
