What do we think of his comments on "gutless" Galway ?

Fairly laid into them.

Does he have a point of is he well wide of the mark ?

The article says more about Ger than it does the Galway hurlers.

Remember this is the same man who said the Kilkenny team had a load of "functional" hurlers in their ranks. A lot of these functional hurlers would breeze onto any county in Ireland as they have the winning mentality.

Do Galway have an issue? No more than any other county coming up against the monster that is Kilkenny hurling who barring Tipp the odd year and Limerick in the lashing rain have cruised past the other teams.

At least Galway make Kilkenny get out of third gear!

Fairly accurate in relation to the players & the coup, remember he also managed most of these players. In relation to Micheal O Donoghue, he is wrong & should apologise on reflection. You don't have to spit fire & brimstone on the sideline to be a good manager, Jim Gavin seems to be reasonably successful & keeps a very calm persona.

With regards the players Ger is 100% correct! As another poster said this could have been written months ago as the dogs on the street knew it was coming. Galway players completely overrated themselves and looked to blame someone else other than themselves! Who do they blame now? Who did they blame for relegation?

His piece is way over the top . The match yesterday was very competitive and hard fought for 60 minutes. The better team with the greater resources pulled away in the end . Tactically in the second half Brian Cody's positional changes made a big difference . The article in relation both to the Galway players and Michael Donoghue is overly personal and very bitter . Ger's standards of journalism are poor even by the standards of tabloid journalism.

Hes spot on...galway had a point to prove and ended up 'the usual outcome' - they will want a big chat with themselves before QF if they are to see a SF....no point tip toeing around them, need to call a spade a spade

Galway players and mentors are amateurs, not professional. Galway lost but not hammered by KK. If he wants to look at "losers" let him look at Roy Hodgson of England football. 4 million a year and is beat by part timers.

His comments in relation to Donoghue are way over the top , totally uncalled for to write about a Gaa manager in such a manner.

He's not spot on. The players fought as hard as they could in that second half. They came back from four points down and pulled it back to a point. With ten minutes to go the game was still up for grabs . I was at all three of their championship matches between this year and last year . This was Galway's best performance of the three. They were beaten by a better team with better resources. Not everyone can call on Richie Hogan at half time. To call these lads gutless is bitter and personal. Loughnane was out of order. Waterford were well beaten by Kilkenny in last year's semi final in similar fashion to Galway. The Galway management had the guts to go man to man with Kilkenny and not hide behind sweepers. Does that make Waterford's hurlers gutless ? No it doesn't. They tried and lost last year as Galway have done over the past two years. So will a lot of teams who play this Kilkenny team. Remember Loughnane said this Kilkenny team had a lot of "functional" players. It's time he took the chip off his shoulder and gave this Kilkenny team credit for how good they are.

To kick someone when he's down is the lowest of the low. And they call that journalism!

If you rate a team as gutless because they lose to Kilkenny then there aren't many teams with guts.

Totally over the top remarks.

You'd imagine he had that piece in his locker for a while just waiting for a Galway loss.

Comes across as very bitter.

His comments regarding the Galway manager are down right appalling.

He is right about the players and the coup, rest of it is just hogwash served up as soup of the day.

Every county has had 'points to prove' for years against KK, and wind up with 'the usual outcome'. Was it 3-30 and 2 wides Waterford shipped in 2008. The way Millane is talking in today's paper, you'd think he might have even enjoyed one win against KK in championship, but no, there was none.

Loughnane looked like Cesar Luis Menotti on the line, and still won nothing with Galway. The commentary re:fr trendy is tabloid copy, but mildly amusing too.

Loughnane's comments on the new Galway manager are appalling and indefensible.Lazy ass tabloid journalism from Ger.

Loughnane is quick to tear in to other people. After the 1998 semi final early final whistle fiasco, he almost immediately said Clare were willing to take part in a replay. This was an absurd decision and in probability cost his county another All Ireland. I could never see Babs Keating, Brian Cody or Frank Murphy agreeing to some thing like this, if their respective teams were involved. It was as if every referees mistake could lead to a replay. If Ger had stood his ground the Central Council would have found it very difficult to force Clare to replay that game
