Two county grounds

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'm almost certain Mayo havens second ground, is it Ballina??

Mayo had three on the go at one stage- McHale Park in Castlebar as the primary ground, with James Stephen's Park in Ballina and Fr. O'Hara Park in Charlestown also seeing action in the league. However, as the Mayo County Board took over ownership of McHale Park about a decade ago, almost all of Mayo's games are played there now.

We have no county ground in my opinion. Cant call Cusack park a county ground when there's no car park or warm up area.

Replying To county man:  "Most county grounds apart from Croke Park, Thurles and Clones are white elephants. Counties can't maintain one county ground not to mind two..."
Breffni Park is hosting about 6-7 games every weekend right now and hosts many intercounty games at varying levels not including Cavan. I would guess that it's the most used county ground in the country outside of Thurles (Hurling), Croker and Portlaois for intercounty games.
Has a gym, a full size training field and a full size all-weather field also.

Excellently maintained and nearly always in pristine condition (in fact, their groundsman is a regular poster on this forum).

I watched Antrim play London at Cargin a couple of years back as well

You sure it was Cargin Paddy? I know we played them last year in Ballycastle and in Creggan in 2014 and I thought the time previous we played them at home was in Casement (back in 2009)

None of those grounds are really up to scratch though for hosting county championship. We need Casement back asap.

Positive, its my home pitch.
Sean Burke got a straight red in the first half.

Unless Casement gets some sort of parking arranged, I wouldn't be back near it anyway.

Breffni is one of my favourite grounds, great view off the terraces and well maintained, just wish they would extend the roof on the stand, very little covered accommodation for a ground of its size

Yeah would have to agree.

I've been in Breffni in January with the wind blowing sideways into the seated stand and the only dry bodies in the place were actually standing on the far terrace against the back wall!

Ulster has some fine grounds in general. Pairc Esler and Celtic Park in Derry are two of my favourites.

I dont know when the last championship game was at walsh park, never been to championship game in fraher field Dungarvan. Waterfords grounds are not up to standard in my opinion....play most of our championship games in thurles co tipperary, the standard i want to see in my county - for a county there or thereabouts for an all ireland its embarrassing our home ground is so poor....not a huge fan of knowlan park either....the gaelic grounds and parc ui choimh are impressive but semple is the bar i want to see in co portlairge
