You don't know GAA clubs so The GAA never bought any ground for a club. Urban or rural. Most GAA clubs in Dublin have bars and are used as drinking social clubs for members, generating profits for the club . Don't go spouting mistruths. manfromdelmonte (UK) - Posts: 541 - 30/06/2016 12:36:33 1874206 Link 0 |
most clubs are funded through national lottery, gaa funding and money raised from the club themselves. the area i live in in dublin has around 15 thousand people living there. there is one pub. go to ballinamore in leitrim the area has around 350 people living there and there is 5 pubs. I see this replicated all over rural ireland. its a massive neccessity hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 30/06/2016 13:01:29 1874217 Link 0 |
So by your logic the more pubs a GAA club near it, the more more it should be able to raise. You obviously haven't a clue how any club urban or rural generates it's income. Income is generated by people and the more there is in your club catchment area the easier it should be. Most clubs I know are run day to day with their club lotto and this is supplemented by annual club membership (again related to numbers). Clubs do not receive any annual/steady income from Croke Park or any other state agency. Club do occasionally get grants but these are specific to projects and generally are only partial funding. Bottom line clubs are funded by people putting their hand in their pockets it's as simple as that.

No club has ever got GAA funding, lotto funding or sports council capital funding to PURCHASE their grounds. GAA, soccer, rugby, hockey. They might have got some money to DEVELOP their facilities - dressing rooms, playing surface etc manfromdelmonte (UK) - Posts: 541 - 30/06/2016 14:45:22 1874280 Link 0 |
Maybe you should open a pub up.in Dublin so. There seems to be a huge shortage

We are talking about facilities here not the day to say running of the club so get your head back in the game pal hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 30/06/2016 14:55:59 1874294 Link 0 |
Nope as we have enough sports clubs to occupy ourselves without resorting to addictions.

I played in the Peil na nÓg some fifteen years ago (jabers!) in Tipperary and it's a wonderful competition, for the cameraderie and sporting nature of the contests as much as the football end of things. Congratulations to Castleknock on their win. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 01/07/2016 15:20:26 1874722 Link 0 |
Then how you explain Dublin's dominance of the club and intercounty scenes at senior level?
