Dublin v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To Tonny1975:  "Theres is a a lot similarities. You might not what to hear it, which does display Dublin insecurities towards Meath, even though you have dominated Meath and the provience for the last ten years. Few things I would to state

1 Meath V Dublin rivalry did not begin in 1983 or the seventies it began in the 1940s.
2 For generations Meath footballers have come from know where/outsiders and beaten Dublin. Dublin are totally dominate in the provience and Meath the underdog beat them its being going for 70 years. It being going on a long time. In 1986 , Most people expected Laois to be Dublin main rivals in Leinster. They won the league in 1986 and hammered Meath in 1985 in Leinster. Boylan was nearly got rid of in winter 85. Dublin were just as dominant as they are now. If you said in spring 1986 that Meath would play in 5 of the next 6 All Irelands. You would have been laughed ridiculed.
I'm going write a History of Meath Dublin because people just think it started in 83. Meath V Dublin rivalry keeps repeating itself over and over again, Dublin dominate , Meath underdog beat Dublin. Meath grow in confidence and win Leinster and All Irelands and Dulbin cannot beat them.
I will say it again I expect win Meath to win sunday. If not this year ,they will never year, it not question of if Meath will beat Dublin, its a question of when Meath will beat Dublin.
Prediction: Meath to give Dublin almighty fright, and yes Meath to beat Dublin on sunday by 5 ."
I am as well versed on Dublin/Meath history as anybody, believe me.

If you know the history of Meath V Dublin , u be must be worried then for an experienced All Ireland winning Dublin team. Average age 27-28-29. Young Meath average age 22-23. Meath always stronger end of the decade ( 49, , 67, 99 etc) . Dublin hav to peak soon. They r going for four All Irelands , No team outside Kerry has won 4 Sams since Wexford 1914-1918. Meath will get stronger and stronger every year. Dublin will peak, and yes remain strong. There is no such as a bad Dublin team. But Dublin r not going to win the next 5 All Irelands, they r not going to win next five leinster. That wud mean 16 out of 17 leinsters. Never happened before. Aint going to happen. Maybe Dublin peaked last September. When you beat Kerry in an All Ireland very comfortably that sounds like team at peak of it greatness. Yes Dublin r the best team in the country, the best team to come out of Dublin maybe ever. Dublin r the team of the decade. Butyou are not Kerry and Kilkenny. What I mean by that is Kerry and Kilkenny have put numerous titles back to back. Dublin have only done one two in a row in 70 years.
I am writing history of Meath v Dublin so I hope u enjoy the read

We haven't a hope on Sunday. Amazed a couple of people on here actually thing we could cause a shock. A shock would be keeping the score within 5 points. We're not going to turn into all Ireland challengers overnight which is what we'd have to be to beat this Dublin team. We haven't shown anything in league, championship, challenge matches, club football etc. that would point towards progress. Our recent minor win was just a tiny step in the right direction but it's meaningless on it's own. We have to be realistic and realise that it will take several years of hard work and investment to reestablish ourselfs as a serious team.

Nope, not worried in the slightest, yes I expect Meath to catch us some time in the near future, but not this year. History of results mean jack shit.

Replying To realdub:  "The confidence Dublin had in '96 does not compare with next Sundays fixture. '95 was the only year we dished out a hiding to the royals. As for '86, Meath had been pushing us all the way from the early 70's. Some forget that the Dublin/Meath ties of the 70's were down to the wire. In '83 our Leinster Championship meeting went to a replay.

The first half of the 90's were close, the obvious '91 saga and the two years that followed. So there is NO comparison between those days and next Sunday, sorry."
If there was a qualifier system in the 70's Meath would have went far.As you say Meath were putting it up to Dublin.Meath's poor spell(before now) was the early 80's..

Replying To Tonny1975:  "Yes Meath had two experienced players, but they had 7 under 21. You don't win All Ireland football titles with U21s. Only three teams have done it Kerry team 1975, Meath 1996, Gawlay 1998. It takes an extraordinary group of Under 21 to win senior. Anyone who said Meath were going to All Ireland in 1996 in Spring 1996, would have been like someone saying Leicister City last September would win the premiership. Only three teams have come from nowhere to win All Ireland Dublin in 1974, Meath 1996 and Galway 1998."
Exactly and this Meath team does not have these brilliant U21's..

Bring on the Dubs . Paddy O'Brien never bowed to Dublin, Jack Quinn never bowed to Dublin , Mattie Kerrigan never bowed to Dublin, Mick Lyons never bowed to Dublin , Colm O'Rourke never bowed to Dublin , Gerry McEntee never bowed to Dublin, John McDermott never bowed to Dublin , Graham Geraghty never bowed to Dublin , Trevor Giles never bowed to Dublin and Darren Fay never bowed to Dublin . We did it in 1945 and again 47. We bet the Dubs in the sun in 1964 when they were all ireland champion with the Quinn brothers to the fore. We defeated their greatest team in the league in 75 with Rennicks and co. We bet them in the rain in 86 and 87 and 88 in the sun. Four times in 91 they through the kitchen sink at us.Each game they thru everything at us but they still cud not beat lyons and co. They kept coming at us like Forman V Ali in rumble in the jungle . Instead of a rope a dope, it was rope a dub. The Meath men sucked up the pressure like Ali and then hit the Dubs with the sucker punch called Kevin Foley. We beat u as the biggest underdogs in 1996 when u were all ireland champions in the rain. And gave them a football lesson in the first half in 97 and 99 and 01. We drew in 07 and put five past v cluxton 2010. Meath men were put on this earth for one and one thing only .To knock Dublin off their perch in leinster. We will never give up the fight and what we have done in the last 70 we will do for the next 70 . To every dublin supporter u should never right of the men from Summerhill, Dunboyne, Dunderry, Skryne, Navan, Kilbride, Dunsany , Kilmainhamwood, Oldcastle, Nobber and Trim. Because when you're Dublin and play meath your only 70 minutes from being beaten. But more importantly 70 mins from a royal revolution in leinster. Maybe just maybe sunday will be another 1945, 1964,1986,1996 . If not this time our time will surely come to knock Dublin off their perch in Leinster. It's what us Meatmen do best. .Come on the royals.

How do u know that McGill 22 Harnan 22 Power 22 Finn 22 Douglas/Finn 22 ? Rooney 22 McEntee 22 Wallace 22 Sullivan 22 Flanagan 22 , how good they r. They have only started. U21 don't win All Irelands, these young men above have potential. Theyre only startin .We will only know how good these 8 or 9 players are in 2020 5 years time. They do have potential , no one know how good they can be. But all takes is one victory over Dublin , and then everything changes. Last time Paddy Cullen was talking up the Dubs was in spring 91. We know wat happened next. Meath to win by 5 .

Well I beg to differ, as far as I could see Galway were tuned in and Mayo weren't, but we're all entitled to our opinions.

Replying To bdbuddah:  "35k is a decent amount of tickets sold by Wednesday if that's the case but as of now they have yet to sell upper tier tickets for stands (look at tickets.ie) which is not great. If there was no Euro soccer on I would have expected maybe 65/ 70 k in stadium, now I expect about 40k. I think some who have bought tickets might not show. Hard one for GAA, what ever they did it would not have been ideal with soccer match on Sunday also."
Yes I told you that there would be no uptake on tickets since they changed the time to 6.35 they sold 35thousand by Wednesday and said they expect 40thousand to be there Sunday.
No way would they have got 65 or 70 thousand for this game they would have expected around 50 thousand before they changed the times of the game's.

History is there to be made not repeated!
You only have to go to last year where Dublin had never beaten Kerry three times in a row in championship matches.

Some people talking about attendances. I reckon if it was BAU attendance would be around 55 thousand.
Just looking at lenister final attendances over the past 10 years. I know Sunday is not a final but I reckon it will be the largest attendance in leinster this year. Looks like the attendees struggle to reach 60,000 down from 80,000. And looks like its just Meath and Dublin clashes that are reaching 60,000 mark. Its understandable who wants to go and watch a team get beaten by 16 points ? Long term I wonder is the a future for the leinster championship ? Also maybe a stronger case for Dublin playing more games outside croke park.

2006 Dublin 1-15 - 0-9 Offaly
Attendance: 81,754
2007 Dublin 3-14 - 1-14 Laois
Attendance: 81,394
2008 Dublin 3-23 - 0-9 Wexford
Attendance 80,112
2009 Dublin 2-15 - 0-18 Kildare

2010 Meath 1-12 - 1-10 Louth

Replying To Tonny1975:  "I wouldn't be surprised of a huge shock on Sunday. I think there is a good possibility at least of Meath giving the Dubs a serious rattle. Anytime Dublin are All Ireland champions and play Meath, Meath give them a serious test eg 1977, 1984 and 2012. And even beat them 1964 and 1996. We have been down this road before with Meath and Dublin. Meath were rank outsiders in 1986 and 1996 and they caused a massive shock in beating Dublin on both occassions. 1986 and 1996 were played in the rain, It seems Sunday is another day. Will 2016 be another royal revolution. I think it will be Meath, Meath to win by 5 ."

We won AI in 2013 and gave Meath a hiding the following year.
So don't see us vulnerable after winning Sam.

Replying To Tonny1975:  "That's is wrong. No one thought that Meath would win Leinster in 1996. Carlow were favourites to beat Meath in the frist round in 1996. Meath were big outsiders V Dublin in that Leinster Final 1996. Dublin hammered Meath by ten points in 1995 . Meath had an hugely inexperienced team with 7 U21s in 1996. It was one youngest teams ever to win All Ireland. In hindsight we can say Meath went on to win All Irelands in 96 and 99 . But I clearly remeber at the time Dublin were very confident that Meath had`nt chance in 96 No ones aw it coming, or 86 or 1964. In Trevor Giles doc on Tnag this year, Ciaran Whelan admitted that Dublin had thought Meath were for gone for few years after the hammering in 1995. He freely admitted it was shock, the victory in 96 . Why cannot u just admit it was a shock. Methinks deep The royals still rattle the Dubs. Meath have been doing this for generations, coming from nowhere complete outsiders and beating Dublin. Meath have the best record in the country V Dublin ."
Good man , excellent post
