Tipperary v Waterford hurling final venue?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Thurles is the best venue in Munster for the match but because Tipperary and Waterford usually play in a neutral venue we have to respect Waterford's wishes if they don't fancy playing it in Thurles.

Obviously Pairc UiCaoimh would normally be the preferred venue of both teams but that is not an option.

Killarney is awkward to get to from both counties and especially East Waterford. I
Think fans in East Waterford would fine it easier to get to Limerick.

So by a process of elimination you are left with the Gaelic Grounds which would have been the venue of choice if it was Tipp vs Clare. The Gaelic Ground is a good hurling venue and locals will fill the ground in the unlikely event of it not being a sell out. Killarney will get its day in the sun the following week with the football final.

As much as I would love Killarney to host it, in the interest of fairness Limerick should get it. It has got very games in the last few years (The Kerry Mayo game there is probably the best atmosphere I've had at a Kerry game in recent times) and is not exactly hard to get to for either Tipp or W'ford

The people insisting it has to be Thurles are very unfair and disrespectful to the Waterford players and management. They have gone to Thurles twice for Finals vs Tipp and lost. Home advantage is a huge factor in every sport in the world and to coerce the Deise into giving the opposition home advantage is extremely unfair, all they want is equality and fair play and given the efforts they have put in the last few years they absolutely should get fair play.

As most of us correctly predicted, all Munster final roads lead to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. No way the Deise were going to cede home advantage, once more,to the reigning Munster champions. As John Mullane wrote yesterday,he remembered Brendan Maher saying "no way were we going to lose in front of our own fans" after last years final.Waterford have made the correct call.Should be a cracker.

With Cork out of action it seems the only other option was Limerick. Its a fine ground hopefully it will get a game worthy of the occasion.

Play it in Nowlan Park - The Home of Hurling. It's equidistant between Tipp and Waterford.

That's not even in Munster.Might work against it and besides it already got a game that should never have been played there.

Any tips on best place to park? Would the Park and Ride take for ever after the match?
