Replying To clondalkindub:  "Back in the day I always supported the Nordy teams but not a hope in hell now cause of the negative horrible football they all play and I include Cavan Monaghan n Donegal in this your all the same to me. I still like Down always played it the right way and always had great skilful players."
You must have forgotten the horrible puke football ye played under Gilroy in 2011 but won Sam with!!!!!
I dont mind northern teams at all in fact I really liked Joe Kernans Armagh team thought they shouldve won more than 1 all Ireland

If I could choose who I supported in the same way many choose an English soccer team, and then I would support Tyrone.. Obviously I would never want them to beat Cork

I cheer for Wicklow and Dublin as I was born and raised a Dub but became involved in Wicklow GAA when I moved. I actually would cheer for Leinster counties when they're playing outside the province ( apart from Kildare). In the hurling it's different as my grandad was Limerick through and through so I wouldn't cheer for anyone apart for Limerick and the Dubs in the hurling.

I think I actually would cheer against some teams from Ulster apart from Antrim and Fermanagh (You get use to each other when in lower Divisons). I don't like the cynicism that goes on in most Ulster matches and I think they are the least entertaining. That's not saying I don't respect the GAA communities up there, it's more just the way the teams set out.

I'd usually be up for the underdog and wouldn't care what province they represent.

I wouldn't be gone on one team up North due to their complete lack of class.

Would you consider Ronan O'Neill, Michael Murphy, Conor McManus, Gearoid McKiernan, Ryan McHugh etc as 'a complete lack of class' Might they get a game with Tipp if eligible to play?

Antrim played Kildare in Newbridge (I think) several years ago. It may have been a qualifier or League 2 game. Anyway one particular Kildare fan for the entire first half kept going on about "Nordy this, Nordy that and go back home to your own country etc etc. There were a few Antrim fellas behind him and he knew it. Well he started again at the start of the second half. One of the older Antrim fellas just walked over and decked him. End of. He skulked away after that.

What an embarrassing comment - embarrassing for the person who made it. Crazy stuff and I'm sure not a fair reflection of the good people from Tipp or maybe Kerry based on his username.

Ha very true Cue.

I was awful at taking defeat in my teens . Championship knockouts were bitter .

That Dublin team had a lot of hurt . Could of won in 2-3 in a row but at least you's are more than making up for it now .

I base who I shout for on certain factors;

Here's my list of teams in order who I'd least like to see winning Sam!

1. Kildare
2. Tyrone
3. Armagh
4. Cork
= 5. Meath, Donegal
= 6. All those "meh" teams! Derry, Cavan, Roscommon, Down, Louth
7. Offaly
8. Anyone who never won it before or recently such as Wexford, Carlow, Antrim, Wicklow, Sligo, Clare, Limerick, Westmeath, Waterford, Tipperary, Fermanagh, Longford, London, Leitrim etc
9. Galway, Monaghan
10. Kerry
11. Mayo
12. Laois

Replying To cacsmckilly:  "I would hope to think people from Connacht would support an Ulster team quicker than the Munster and Leinster crowd. Ulster and Connaught have a bit of an affiliation in that we've won the least. I would always support a Connacht team over Kerry, Dublin etc Plus I like to go to Sligo, Doolin and Westport on my holidays..."
I remember visiting Westport when I was younger and it was like Clones on Ulster Final day with the amount of Ulster jerseys around.

Replying To Tacaí Liatroma:  "I have never seen a border in cases of games between a NI country and a Republic county. Even now that you've put the idea in my head, I don't."
That sums it up for me.
My own county first, those where I have close relatives from next, mostly neutral about the rest of the country but always good to see someone new (ish) win it. Would have loved to see Mayo do it over the last few years for example.
Whether someone is in the 6 counties never enters my head.

Like most others......our own nearest neighbours would always come in last. I wouldn't want Meath or Laois to win regardless of who they were playing. Ever.

Have never been anti-north have allways been pro the under-dog particularly when it came to Antrim in the hurling , I love when the north teams come down in big numbers for big games , however there is a section that arrive with a bit of a chip on the shoulder , would never choose a southern team over an Ulster team , found myself shouting for Armagh and Tyrone big time , yet couldn't take to Donegal under Jim , point being each county on there merits regardless of geography

I support Donegal an anyone thats playing Dublin or Kerry should they be Noth or South.

As an Ex Hurler an having played in and have been to a few coaching seasons at underage with Antrim senior hurlers I always liked seeing them do well and also loved and liked to see the Deise do well especially when Big Dan,Mullane, Browne ect were playing.

I always had sympathy for Northern GAA teams based on the political situation up there. The "hassel" some GAA people had in attending and training from the other side.
Something the GAA in the south- except Limerick maybe- never had.

I always support my home county but if they are knocked out I would support Connaught counties. I also have a soft spot for Fermanagh and would love to see them have some success. When watching games between othe counties I always start out neutral but generally find that a bad ref decision or some act of gamesmanship by a player gets me supporting the other team. I hate to see any team get a bad beating.

"Southern Brethern" - Who are they? The 6 counties of Munster, the southern province of Ireland? I look on Ireland as an island and I see no border.

As a brief side comment: The Republic of Ireland soccer team are representing the 32 counties of Ireland. The likes of Gibson and McClean making my point for me.

When I watch the very competitive Ulster football championship, I would tend to support the underdog like many people tend to.

I'd be fairly neutral in most cases, maybe supporting the underdog slightly, i.e. I was hoping London would pull off a miracle in the Conaught final a few years back. Where the team is from makes no difference.

Until this thread, i'd never ever heard of the term "The Black North"

Whats embarrassing is we both know who this team is.
