Now that is a mentality I will not ever understand. Dislikes the national team because of their foreign accents but supports Liverpool a foreign team. The men of 1916 died for nothing.

Again... Without any hesitation. Sam. And this coming from a Liverpool fan who has never seen his side win the league. I travel watching Dublin's footballers everywhere. I haven't missed so much as an O'Byrne cup game since We played Westmeath in Mullingar in 2004. Its different when you go to all your teams games. When you actually are with them wherever they go. You feel part of it. Never feel part of it watching Ireland on tele.... maybe cause I tend to turn over rather than watch them. I'll watch them in the euros but I wont celebrate if they score...there is just nothing there for them. Euros or not. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 07/06/2016 21:18:16 1863210 Link 0 |

What exactly is wrong with a bandwagon supporter? In a GAA context I understand if they get an All Ireland ticket ahead of you , but soccer ? I will watch Ireland and probably find myself making tea at some stage during the games 90 mins of soccer way too much , but I will watch and manage my schedule around the games , I will ensure it doesn't get in the way of my GAA club activities , may even find myself in the local for a bit of athmosphere at the odd game , enter a draw in the job last man standing , yes I'm a bandwagon supporter , now who am I harming ? Where's the problem? Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 07/06/2016 21:28:19 1863226 Link 1 |
yeah horrible accent on shane long and robbie keane isn't there to name just two? What about the bandwagon of liverpool and the dublin footballers? If i remember correctly i believe you dont live in dublin? alano12 (Dublin) - Posts: 2208 - 07/06/2016 21:31:25 1863229 Link 3 |
Its not people being English or Scottish that I have the problem with. Ive no problem with England and Scotland. I just think players should play for their country if they were born and raised in that country, And also played underage football with the country. Because that doesn't happen you have fellas declaring themselves as proudly irish when they realise they have no hope of making the England team. Case in point, Jon Walters. Case in point, Keiren Westwood. Case in point, Richard Keogh. And I couldn't care less if its a stoneage view. Its my view and that's the end of that. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 07/06/2016 21:35:17 1863237 Link 0 |
especially when you offer strong passionate opinions on a foreign english club team

No question in the wide earthly world about this- Mayo every time! I derived more pleasure from seeing Mayo win the U-21 Championship last month than Ireland winning a World Cup! When it comes down to it, I grew up watching league games in McHale Park, not internationals in Lansdowne Road (not that I could hope to see midweek internationals when I was growing up anyway...) I grew up playing with fellas on the Mayo panel, and they are accessible to me in a way that Robbie Keane et al. just aren't. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 07/06/2016 21:48:46 1863250 Link 0 |
Easy one for me, Meath all the way. That been said I will watch Ireland games, (and England too) again I'm not one of these hate anything English, I do have a problem with their media and the way they go on. But that's it. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 07/06/2016 21:52:11 1863254 Link 0 |

Ireland to win the Euros I think. I have been lucky enough to experience Donegal winning two All Ireland's and I think I would get that same feeling if Ireland won the Euros. I have no preference for the GAA over soccer or vice versa. I would say I'm obsessed with both. I watched every game you watched on Sunday and Monday Sam along with my club on Saturday and then the Christy Ring and then Dublin/Laois Saturday evening. I will watch the Euros with the same enthusiasm and I'm booked up for France next week. Funny you said your only soccer interest is Glasgow Celtic. I can't stand them. Can't stand their fans, can't stand the club at all which must be an exception for a man from West Donegal! But if you were to ask Donegal people would they rather Celtic win the Champions league or Donegal win an All Ireland the amount of people who say Celtic might surprise a lot of people HandballRef (Donegal) - Posts: 520 - 07/06/2016 22:08:38 1863273 Link 0 |
imagine holding an opinion like that and being from and living in meath?...hypocritical much?..in international terms us england and scotland are similar in that we are neighbours alano12 (Dublin) - Posts: 2208 - 07/06/2016 22:19:13 1863281 Link 0 |

Lately I'd have chosen Kildare winning a match never mind an All Ireland but there's nothing that lifts the country like the footballers going well. if_in_doubt (Kildare) - Posts: 3685 - 07/06/2016 22:25:28 1863288 Link 0 |
