Very surprised. Then again it's a Bank Holiday weekend, a lot of people head off on holidays around now, might affect numbers.

I'm not surprised. Bank Holiday weekend and Cat Laughs festival on in Kilkenny too. Hotels will be hiking prices. 7 p.m. throw-in will put off a lot of folks with kids who might have thought of making the trip down and back in one day. It's quicker to get to Thurles than Kilkenny from Dublin. Mickmick (Dublin) - Posts: 104 - 31/05/2016 15:02:34 1860294 Link 1 |
However if my memory is correct only 4 teams have beat Dublin since 2010 inc Meath been one of them , others Kerry , mayo Donegal, I may be missing one , but its not something that any other team or provinces can say if they were only here. Again I shouldn't have singled out Monahan, that was unfair. ConnollyDub (Dublin) - Posts: 2007 - 31/05/2016 16:10:53 1860318 Link 0 |
Also a lot of Dublin supporters will be going to the euro's so they'll be saving their money for that. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 31/05/2016 16:39:14 1860329 Link 1 |
CKD I know of very few GAA fans going to the Euros , I know many lads in work that follow soccer going and quite a few that not real fans of any particular code that are going for the crack . Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 31/05/2016 17:21:24 1860347 Link 0 |
Not surprised at all, it's a Bank Holiday weekend and the Leinster Council display utter stupidity in fixing a game in Nowlan Park on a Saturday night of a big festival in Kilkenny. The excuse of using a venue with more seats now looks pathetic as they wont even be able to fill all the seats. Only serves to prove how wrong it was not to allocate this game to O'Moore Park

I actually thought clondalkindub was being sarcastic, you know, feeding off the slant that the culchies put on us about being soccer heads. I will watch Ireland's games on TV and maybe the semis and final. KerryKillers (Dublin) - Posts: 711 - 31/05/2016 20:55:35 1860388 Link 0 |
Dublin would be better off going through the back door then winning Leinster, just to mix thing up. Means we might have more competitive games before a potential AI final. Hopefully a few away games away from Croke Park as well, be interesting to see what HQ and other counties would make of reduced allocations with Dublin playing in smaller grounds and season tickets needing to be priortised. only 13,400 tickets sold so far and plenty of spare ones going around already in Laois...(I live here) BigJohn.6_8 (Galway) - Posts: 704 - 01/06/2016 10:11:49 1860435 Link 1 |
The game should have been in Portlaoise but it isn't and while I understand Laois's frustration you have to just get in with the game at this stage. Let's be honest the venue won't effect the result, Dublin will win this game no matter where it's played, it's just that Portlaoise would have been a lot handier for Laois fans and even for Dublin fans. You're right htaem, would much rather a packed smaller ground than a half empty Croke Park. And had this game been fixed for Portlaoise I have no doubt we'd have been guaranteed a sell-out. The GAA have nobody to blame for this fiasco but themselves. I don't blame Laois fans one bit for being put out by this but as you say we/they just have to get on with it.

Delighted it isn't sold out. We can finally put an end to the myth that Dublin were too big to take out of croker. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 01/06/2016 14:07:04 1860527 Link 4 |
Dublin team to play Laois clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 02/06/2016 21:38:27 1861036 Link 2 |
Excellent looking team - happy to see Kev get a start I don't think our defence will be tested much.. and any perceived weakness there will not be possibly exposed on Saturday night Can see Laois going very defensive... after Wicklow scored 18 points... I've no doubt they've been training defensively I think it will be similar enough to the 2015 Leinster Final jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20601 - 03/06/2016 10:15:15 1861113 Link 0 |
It's not sold out yet... I'd still expect it to be close But there's two teams playing... we cant do much about Laois not being arsed All this has done is ensure that probably less people will see the game - compared to if it was in CP Proving the Leinster councils point further... less people, less revenue, less funds Still there will be at least 15,000 Dubs travelling... But no doubt if it had of been in CP you'd have had 30,000+ in CP - it would have been far handier for families to attend But the GAA decided to hold it on a bank holiday, Cat Laughs comedy festival already booked I for that wkend, limited places to stay, jacked up pricing, and now a late throw in time putting off travelling families going on a day trip... jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20601 - 03/06/2016 10:33:19 1861119 Link 0 |
No. They've played in 4 championships - 1907, 1921, 1922 & 2014. All won by Dublin. The last time Monaghan beat Dublin was in the 1997/98 league.

I only got rid of Sky Sports last week so the radio will have to suffice.I guess i cant complain about Sky as i supported the idea when they came on board. As im trying my best to stay off the demon drink, the pub is not a great option. Not to worry. As Freddie Mercury once said,it's Radio GAA GAA saurday night for me.Dubs by 12 +. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 03/06/2016 14:22:16 1861235 Link 1 |
I live in Dublin myself and I know 7 Dubs fans who would regularly go to watch Dublin games (as in league games) and a lot of Dublin hurling too. 6 of them are going to France and they would follow Ireland all over Europe during the qualifiers. I go to nearly all Mayo league and Championship games myself (I was in London last Sunday) and I too follow Ireland all around Europe and Ill be in France. I know quite a few lads from at home who are GAA fans but will also be in France. Fair enough if it is your experience that you know very few GAA going to France, your experience is your experience, but mine is the complete opposite. An awful lot of fans who follow Ireland are also GAA fans so in my experience there is quite a lot of crossover between GAA and the fans of the national soccer team. As for the match. Having the game in Nowlan Park won't make the blindest bit of difference in my view. The handicap is -15 and I think Dublin will cover it. the_walls (Mayo) - Posts: 495 - 04/06/2016 07:43:51 1861400 Link 0 |
