Galway vs Mayo Hard Battle

Galway team named, 5 championship newcomers.. will be a tough day at the office for them, but excited with them as they are young and all very good players. Even if we lose to Mayo which i expect we could give the qualifiers a good run..

The Galway team for Saturday:

Galway (SFC v Mayo): Bernard Power; Eoghan Kerin, Declan Kyne, David Wynne; Liam Silke, Gary O Donnell, Gareth Bradshaw; Paul Conroy, Thomas Flynn; Gary Sice, Shane Walsh, Johnny Heaney; Eamonn Brannigan, Damien Comer, Danny Cummins

Can Galway posters give us some info on the new guys? I never heard of Bernard Power, Eoghan Kerin or Johnny Heaney...clubs, age, are they good?

Galway have some serious talent from Midfield up.Would love to see Galway give Mayo a serious test. However its hard to see it happening as Mayo are a ruthless machine in Connacht and are operating on a differant planet to the rest. Mayo are the team that are well capable of beating Dublin if they meet (All Ireland Final)The only reservation I have for Mayo is that they are likely to be heading into a quarter final without a competitive match.

I do find it amusing that Mayo get very little credit for actually having very good footballers especially from other Connacht counties. We keep hearing the lines of "further down the road of development" "ruthless" "machine" "little resistance" which in relation to Galway we keep hearing, great natural ability and Roscommon are getting huge credit for their forward's.

Is it the fact we have not landed the big one that people seem to suggest our Connacht dominance is down to weak opposition only?
I hear people saying even in my own county, we hope for a close games etc etc...well I don't sit comfortable in tight games so I hope we hammer everyone we meet out the gate.

Back-handed complements yewtree. I wouldn't get too bothered about them. Any of our starting forwards would start for Galway or Roscommon so I don't figure how they come to these conclusions.
Saying that, I don't buy this 'mayo will face nobody in connacht' attitude that is coming out of galway and now Roscommon. They will both be fully intending to spring a surprise if we meet them. Galway will be gunning for us this weekend. There is no reason they cant come out like Tipperary did against cork and we have to be ready for that. I believe we will be.

Not looking for praise or anything I am just saying what I notice is said here and indeed in the media. We do have very good players in Mayo and always produce good players. The notion that we are only a powerful and physical team is bogus in my opinion.
Than again I do realise that we will never get credit until we land the big one...I am excepting a big push this year.

Galway have got 5 very good debutants and a very strong team out Shane Walsh , Gary Sice , Danny Cummins and Damien Comer can get very good lock of scores and Johnny Haeny and Eammon Braddigan will be interesting to see I say they will have a good 3 pointer each with Paul Conroy having 1 or 2 maybe . It completely depends how Thomas Flynn will play to determine if they have a good win or not. The half Back line is very Good also with Gareth Bradshaw and Gary O'Donnel both great defenders but have a nice attacking role also but at the same time they need to keep their eyes on their marker . And Liam Silke to . The full back line for once I belive in . yes , they are all young and debutants but I liked there style durn the league esspically David Wynne for some odd reason . Eoghan Kerrigan looks like one of those players that will be very important if he does well , Declen Kyne i'm not too sure yet I had a few good matches in the leauge and yes he a good enough player but he needs to watch his surroundings I think with the development, he can end up brilliant . Bernard Powers looks good but I need more matches to see him as there was very little . They need 3 good subs in to play . if Peader og O'Griofa came on he can make a nice difference if needed. Gary Sice to have small role as a sweeper if needed.

If Galway get an early lead it will give them confidence and help the new men bed in. Then we might have a good game. If, on the other hand, Mayo get a lead up they will probably use their experience, like Donegal on Sunday, to slow the game down, take the momentum out of it and have a lot of injuries requiring long periods of treatment. It will be boring but the pundits will praise them for their 'professional' approach.

Is that your best effort at a witty retort? You had better hope that your put more effort and creative into their game against Galway.

In the last five years 2011 London and Roscommon, 2012 Sligo,2014 Roscommon,2015 Galway all gave Mayo competitive games in Connacht. The only year Mayo didn't get a competitive match before the All Ireland quarter final the last five years was 2013 and that year also turned out to be Mayos least competitive AI quarter v Donegal.

Mayo were at their peak in 2013 to claim they are well capable of beating Dublin now if they meet in the All Ireland final is a very bold statement to make but i think you are letting your heart rule your head there.

Oak, you have gone through the team from the team sheet, Eoghan Kerin is the corner back, Bernard Power is the goalkeeper, just try and get the names correct. Another note, as everyone in Galway knows, Peader Og o Griofa is out for the season with a knee injury sustained earlier this year..
Stop the waffling..

He was a too hyped up after the sly blow he got from Boyle the year before and after a brilliant first half he had a poor second half and I hope he's learnt from that. You need not to look further than your own Lee Keegan and his antics before moaning about Galway players.
