Tipp hurlers

Cork are coming in so low under the radar for this game, and even most ardent supporters are pessimistic.
I think that this bodes well for the team, and they will come out fighting in Thurles.
I don't think this is a bad Cork team. I fully expect them to be super-motivated, very fit and they do have some excellent forwards.
A tightening up of man marking in defence, high fitness levels, and a motivated Cork team can easily advance.

Are you having a laugh Rockies? Its the worst Cork team in living memory in my opinion,Tipp by 10.

Anthony Cunninham reckons Cathal Barret and James Barry haven't been good enough for Tipp. What planet is this lad living on? Along with Callinan and Bubbles they are two of Tipps four most important players. In my mind both should have got all stars last year. Personally, there isn't a corner or full back in the country I would take ahead of either of them. Tipp let in one goal in the cship last year and Gleeson hardly had a shot to save. Maybe it's all becoming a bit clearer why the Galway players lost faith in him!

He seems also to think that Forde is better than Bubbles!
"I couldn't understand how Jason Forde wasn't on the team the last few years, he's an excellent hurler. Niall O'Meara was there last year, Bubbles O'Dwyer...

I agree Tiobraid.Bizarre comment by Cunningham.Barret has been one of the best corner backs in the country over the last two years and Barry is a solid full back.He shored up that full back line last year.Tipps two most impressive defenders of last two years so i think A Cunningham is talking through his hat on that one.

Agree regarding Barrett, top corner back, however if my Tipp contact is correct we won't be seeing him against Cork.

Barret will play. Gleeson may not. It's not ideal that's for sure!

I think they will do well to get 20,000 at the game, Cork's morale is on the floor and whilst Tipp are not the finished article they should be far too good for Cork.
I'll be there OK but I live in Tipp and it's just a handy journey for me, to be honest if I had to travel from Cork, I'm not sure I'd bother and I have been a faithful fan of Cork hurling for nigh on 60 years.
Sunday will be the first time I'll attend a Cork/Tipp game where I'd go away happy if we run them close. There is a bit of hope emerging at under age level but it will take years for it to come through, I'm sad to say I can't see any end to the Cork famine any time soon.

Stay home corkcelt - I certainly will be. This is a nothing match. Only the All-Ireland matters. The losers will play against a team that they are much better than anyway and be in exact same position as the winners (much of muchness in terms of reachiong AI Q/F). Hurling only starts in August. We'll be good for 1/4 finals and we will see after that. The team that loses on Sunday will learn the most and therefore gain the most. Teams are training (far too much) to peak later in the year - not for Sunday. Whatever party-line the respective selectors/players might tow about loving the munster championship for the media is just a nonsense - speak to them privately and they'll all tell you a Munster medal is about as valuable as a Waterford Crystal medal..

cheers Cue, true words! we sometimes take for granted the great commitment of some of the finest players in the game. best wishes to probably the best goalkeeper in hurling, hopefully the team deliver a performance for him.

Apologies to D Gleeson as he starts for Tipp.Looks my Tipp sources were wide of the mark.I should be more careful with rumours.

On the team selected,i'm not overly enthused by the half-forward line.I saw Dan McCormack a few times during the league and i wasn't impressed.Dont know much about Curran. And Noel McGrath hasn't looked the same player since his defeat of cancer last year (understandably).Where is Bonnar and J Forde? Is Forde injured again because i wss hoping for him to kick on and cement his place in the team this year.

It looks like he has more or less gone with players on form with their clubs. McCormack hasn't been good enough and big mistake to start to newcomers in the one line where we struggle. If it doesn't work there'll be questions to be answered!

bennybunny makes a lot of sense regarding the matches status and value overall.clare lost by 6 points to cork at the same stage in 2013,they learnt a few things and moved on... the qualifier route is often a good way to go .you find out a lot about players and is a confidence builder. no team has won the all ireland going the route tipp or cork have to this year for 50 yrs(leaving out kerry, sorry) i know traditionalists wont like to hear it but a munster medal doesnt hold the same value since the back door.. limerick and waterford have them in recent years....i wonder how they feel about them not having won the ultimate? which is really all that counts..

Kavvie,i think we all realise that. But you either like hurling or you dont. There's thousands of us who are looking forward to the Tipp v Cork game.As we are to the Dublin v Wexford game tonight. We know the format has lots of faults but we just love the game so we cant wait for the action.

Your not wrong there tiobraid. If the Tipp half forward line are wiped out M Ryan will be under pressure.Tipp have lacked primary ball winners in the air in the forward line in recent years ; especially the half forwards.I dont remember Dan McCormack winning many high balls in the league. And its one thing winning possession - do Curran and McCormack have the skillset to make good use and trouble the scoreboard? All Kilkenny and Clare forwards are well able to score. You wont be winning any All Irelands with forwards who cant score.
