Roscommon led that match today by 3 points after 45 mins took a strong finish from Antrim to put the rossies away.

KYTitletown will be a little shocked with that result after the 25 point Antrim win he predicted.

I just sat todays hurling results, I had a shocker I hope it's not a sign for my beloved Kerry hurlers tomorrow! Cant wait to see that game as we make out long awaited return to the top tier of the hurling chmapionship

Fair play to Roscommon for a fine display against Antrim on the road which is a very difficult place to go to. Hope they keep that level of performance up for the remainder of the competition and maybe get to the final in Croke Park.

Todays results are a refreshing departure from the depressing predictability of the football championship

Marlon: Tyrone have slipped back due to a falling out between the Dungannon Hurling Club and County Board over the way the county final was handled. If they had all the guys playing they would be favourites, no doubt in my mind.

That really is unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear that's the case. I saw a recent article where Kevin Ryan outlined his issue's with getting players to line out for the county (http://www.hoganstand.com/Tyrone/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=251863). I did see Damian Casey was playing today, does that mean the falling out has been remedied?

I hope they can sort things out. They made such progress in league and championship over the last few years, winning Lory Meaghar in 2012, winning 3B and getting promoted to 3A, and then winning Nicky Rackard in 2014, and then winning 3A in 2015. That's phenomenal progress, it certainly brought Tyrone hurlers to my attention, I'm sure others took note as well. To see them go from that to a 3A/3B relegation play-off this year, and now a Nicky Rackard relegation final, is disappointing. I hope they can get things back on track. Things don't sound good though.

Can I ask what results surprised you? Roscommon still lost, plus Down + Kildare were both favorites, and won. The only surprise can think of is Mayo beating Armagh, and even then that wasn't that much of a shock.

My own county beating Tyrone today certainly shocked me! I think I correctly predicted the other results except for Fingal narrowly winning away against Monaghan.

Donegal is a hard team to figure out - how good are they? They narrowly lost to Roscommon in the league relegation/promotion game and nearly upset Armagh last week in the NRC. Today they barely beat the Ernemen. Can anyone elaborate more on the Tyrconnell Hurlers and where they are going.

It seems to be relatively easy to get a weaker county up to a decent standard whilst l rising up through the ranks. You invariably hit a ceiling & its all too easy to slip back down the ladder again. That's the reality of trying to keep hurling going in our counties when all the structures are designed to facilitate football.

That's a fair assessment keeper. Teams/countys can get a bit of momentum going and rise a couple of grades and players will row in behind as success makes it worthwhile. However eventually a grade is reached where it is a struggle just to stand still and players find it a bit of a slog, leading to retirements or lads emigrating. I think I am right in saying that your own county had 10 lads leave the panel after 1 season recently for a variety of reasons, in counties with small playing populations that is devastating.

That's it, Soma. In Fermanagh there's only one senior club in operation but at least they're trying again at underage with six U12 teams. In Longford we've three senior clubs but only two operating at underage & there's no effort or plan or even a hurling coach in place to grow the game.

Predictions for this weekend. Kildare vs. London is a tough one to call and I wouldn't rule out a draw. Down should pop the Rossies at home. Fancy Armagh to have too much for Longford and Donegal to squeeze past Ulster foes Monaghan. Fancy home wins for Louth and Sligo in the Lory Meagher. Should be a good weekend of games before the business end with semi finals on the horizon.

Tough bloody draw for Longford! The other games in the Ring & Rackard will be tight.

Armagh will be disappointed if they don't win the Rackard after their solid league performance.

I was at the Antrim v Rosie game on Sunday and the Rossies played extremely well. They have a great spine to the team all are big strong men who can field the sliotar and also play a bit of hurling. Number 3, 6, 11 were excellent as was the number 15 who was exceptionally nippy. They should pip Down by +5. Meath beating London was an odd result, as London went well in a few league games beating Carlow & Antrim handily. Great to see counties like Meath and Roscommon moving in the right direction, is this due to outside players or has these counties got good home grown talent?

In fairnessCoyote

Roscommon have 5 outsiders in the team, Ian Delaney is a Tipp man the other 4 are Galway natives who all play their club hurling in their own counties

Only one outsider on the Meath squad now, Ronan Sherlock from Tipp.

cuchulainn35 you should do some research before you comment about teams. Roscommon don't have 5 Galway players they have 2 Galway lads with very very close connections to Roscommon. Ian Delaney are Ronan O Meara are originally from Tipperary and have been living in and hurling for Roscommon for around 5 years plus and have rarely lined out in club competition in tipp in the last number of seasons if any at all. The spine of that team are all born and bread Roscommon men and they have some serious hurlers as you can imagine that 3 panel members were good enough to participate on the inter-provincial team this year.

According to the Down manager its a Roscommon/Galway select side. A tiny hurling county are entitled to two Galway lads who work in Ros and want to play.kilkenny and Delaney are good solid backs and a big help. While the two Tipp lads who work in Ros Murphy and O'Meara are decent lads.
The star player is Micheal Kelly at center back a terrific hurler..Fallon a very good keeper.Dolan in midfield and Featherstone at 11 is a big addition after been cut by the footballers and Cillian Egan is our best forward this year.

Justin Cambell has greatly improved this group over the last few years and deserves enormous credit. It must be said Huring in Ros is in a very poor state and will only get worse due to a lack of interest from the County Board who make no effort to promote the game.
