Whats the craic way Antrim hurlers since the new management took over. Did the Cushendall players turn out and is there a better spirit in the camp? They could win the Christy Ring easily if they get a few players out and they put their minds to it. Let me someone!!! paddyokane (Longford) - Posts: 69 - 20/04/2016 20:30:34 1847777 Link 0 |

Say we will RoyalBadger - great to see you guys pressing on - obviously last comment was tongue in cheek but I am all for the emerging and 'lesser counties' (ourselves included). Naysayer (Antrim) - Posts: 2071 - 27/05/2016 10:38:17 1859228 Link 0 |
Ah yeah i know it was. To be honest i dont think we've many any great strides though. We came into the CR off the back of a mediocre league. We beat a bogey team in Kildare in the semi but given its something like our 4th or 5th CR semi in recent years we were due a win. Would love to win this, the county needs something to celebrate and compete in Leinster but many of the disadvantages and inequalities that exist for hurling in Meath have not been dealt with. The pressure is all on antrim , expectation can weigh heavy, anything can happen meath wont mind being underdogs will be closer than u think, elguapo (Meath) - Posts: 51 - 28/05/2016 21:06:56 1859617 Link 0 |
elguapo don't think anyone is under any illusions after the season we have just had. It is a shot at redemmption for Antrim though anyone relevant that I have talked to the feeling is that we will have to be at our very best and get the rub on the day to come out victorious. That's it, Royal Badger. We have been close so many times against Kildare and this year we've finally made it but its not like Meath hurling landscape has changed all that much over the years though the standard of coaching has improved I would say. That said it'll be great to have a serious piece of silverware in the hurling shelf of the trophy cabinet. Its been a shame to see the likes of Antrim, Offaly and Wexford fall behind the leading pack over the last decade and a half after providing so much great hurling through the 90's. Hopefully there will be a new dawn for hurling in both Antrim and Meath over the coming years irrespective of the outcome next week. Best of luck to all, c'mon the Royal! What's the feeling in Antrim about what's going on? begining (UK) - Posts: 300 - 08/06/2016 09:44:08 1863402 Link 0 |
There isn't a county in Ireland that would accept the cup under these circumstances but it's looking increasingly likely that this is what the GAA will try to engineer. The GAA want this done and dusted and their mess swept quickly inder the carpet so without consultation they arranged the replay for this Saturday knowing full well Meath would not be able to line out that day, they would then strip Meath of the title and hand it to Antrim deftly shifting the blame for their fiasco onto Meath for refusing to fulfill it. There's something really sneaky and underhand in trying to bury the fixture on a Saturday night out of view in a half empty stadium in the middle of nowhere. The GAA should give this competition and the teams that play in it the respect it deserves by rescheduling the replay to a mutually acceptable date at HQ where it belongs. Meath have done nothing wrong at this stage in a sporting sense - to not field for the replay they would be stepping into the waters of undermining the spirit of the competition - yes the spirit is already damaged but not by the two competing teams - I think it is a case now of does one or both teams start messing about as well as the organisation and do you say well if it is good enough for the organisation to be a shambles we will create a bigger shambles? I have no real strong opinion on it at this stage, the fallout from last Saturday is leaving a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths regardless but should the game go ahead and Meath win fair and square then they will have something proper to celebrate and no-one can take anything away from it.

I think that's a bit harsh not to mention disrespectful of the efforts both teams put in to these games. While some might argue that your CB might have moved a bit quick in declaring that they were going to turn up in Newry to fulfill the originally planned re-fixture, your players acted with nothing less than grace and class at all times, let's not forget they were victims in this fiasco too.
