Absolute diagrace. There are plenty of good footballers in kilkenny, i have seen them win a south leinster championship beating teams from so called footballin counties. However these kids are being actively encouraged not to play football after u14! No other county in the country shows such apathy to our games

Where were all you poster last week when Wicklow minor hurlers took a beaten against Meath. Only hear from you when hurling is put before football. Look forward to reading your discuss at the counties who are not fielding in the minor hurling championship this summer. Namely Sligo, Mayo, Langford, Cavan, put up or shut up.

The Kilkenny county board should hang their heads in shame.

I've no problem with Kilkenny having no interest in hurling, each to their own. But to send a team on teenagers out to take that trouncing is disgraceful. And for what? A bit of extra funding?

But it's the same elsewhere, the Wicklow minor hurlers for example. We are reaching a bit of a tipping point in the gaa I think.

And I agree with the comments about the Dublin Laois match being played in Kilkenny. A farcical decision even more so now looking at the interest and lack of respect shown for football in the county. So to reward that interest the city and county board get an opportunity to swell their coffers with income from a game with the all Ireland champions which will fill the ground.

Obviously that should have been football, not hurling!

Time to split into two separate organisations. Lots of clubs in football counties actively discourage young lads from playing hurling also.

Emerald79 hurling is not a superior sport to football. Both are great sports. Hurling Is notionally our national sport but less people play hurling than play soccer or football. Kilkenny's treatment of football is disgraceful and has been so for a very long time. No county in Ireland bar maybe Cavan treats hurling as badly as Kilkenny treat football. It is way past time The GAA forced Kilkenny to treat football with more respect. What happened today in the Leinster minor championship was deplorable and the Kilkenny county board should hang their heads in shame.

I presume that's a windup, right? Yes, this football result is a disgrace, and the Kilkenny county board certainly has a case to answer, for sending out a team so ill prepared (no offense to the Kilkenny lads in question, they're minors after all). But if you think no other county shows such apathy to our games (plural), then you don't pay much attention to hurling in this country. Again, Kilkenny's attitude to football could actually be seen as contempt, rather than just apathy, and that's not on. But alot more counties have a similar attitude to hurling.

Meath beat Wicklow by 45 points in hurling last week. Where were all the calls to bar Wicklow and force them to put more resources into hurling?

Not sure why people are having a go at Kilkenny. Look at My County between Bray Arklow and Greystones thers over 60 thousand people and if you picked a team between the lot of them they wouldn't win the Wicklow Championship. Wicklow Co Board should hold there heads in shame the same people are in charge as long as I can remember and I'm 62 yrs old.Bar the odd game once in a blue moon we are getting hammered at under age level year in year out .Unless there is professional people put charge it's going to remain as it is. People give out about the funding Dublin get but they put it to good use and look after under age players from under 8 upwards. If you have funding to the clowns that run some of the County Boards around the country they would just waste it.That my friends is why weak counties will always remain weak .

THIS IS SHOCKING........THIS IS A DISGRACE

yes Armagh hurlers have got hammered, so to haveFermanagh etc - but we try and we try to be competitive
Lets face it - Kilkenny get more money to facilate football than Armagh/Down/Fermanagh/Louth/longford/Monaghan/Cavan/Leitrim/Tyrone/Donegal etc
In 2015 they got 350,000 the yr before 200,000 - so where is the money being spent.... hurling
AS i have said in earlier posts, if they they don't want to play football fine but why take the money .... why play in the Britain and play with Lancs, Glouctershire, Yorkshire etc for the development grant
One of the best footballers i ever saw was Brendan Bulger of Rower Inistigue Kikenny, UCD, London....... there are footballers in Kilkenny..... the shocking statistic is that Wexford won't even get out of Leinster

Con't speak for the other 3 counties you've mentioned, but I can tell you that Cavan's decision not to field a team is a progressive one. The decision was made 2 years ago to completely disband out intercounty hurling teams from Minor level up to senior and to invest in developing players from U16 down to U10 with a view to then having a more competitive group of players available for selection when we re-enter the older grades.

It's a decision i agree with as, in the past, the county team seemed happy to plod along, take a beating from the Warwickshires of this world etc., and never really look to better itself. The appetite for hurling within Cavan is minimal to say the least, but the hurling board has at least tries SOMETHING

Ziggy it was in 2005. It was back when the boom was in full swing, the Dubs won their first Leinster since 2002, Tyrone and Armagh served up three class matches, GAA voted for foreign sports in Croke Park and Sean Boylan was coming to an end for the Royals.
