Tyrone v Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

While I appreciate that we are only getting up to the top table in terms of division 1, and everyone in Cavan knows we are a long way off competiting with the Dublins and Kerrys of this world, I wouldn't like people to think that a win on Sunday would make our year. We have a very gifted panel and the age demographic is very good. We would hope for more days in Croker. Yes, this is an important part of our journey, but we will not be getting too excited at the final whistle whether it is a win or a loss. The performance is key for us and the mindset of knowing that we can give as good as we get from Tyrone in Croker. Most Cavan people have a lot of respect for Tyrone and their achievements in recent times speak for themselves. But we have a big trophy haul over the years and we are looking to add to it. This panel has the ability to do more than win a division 2 title and thats our aim.

Maybe I am a bit touchy but a lot of the talk going around seems to be that this is a cup final and a big day out for Cavan. We want to win, yes, but it wont make or break our year and we are ambitious! Anyway, looking forward to both games on Sunday and the commemoration also.

Apologies if I came across as being patronising Reformation, certainly wasn't my intention and I am well aware of Cavans proud haul of titles and place as being the true Blue Bloods and aristocracy of Ulster football. I just think, that given where both teams are coming from a victory for Cavan would mean that little bit more, just as the first league wins of 02 & 03 gave a young Tyrone team the belief to push on to the ultimate prize.
I certainly don't expect the bonfires to be lit around Cavan on Sunday evening should they win, after all, imagine wasting all that good hay & straw ;)

Haha can you imagine the cash lost on that!! ;)

No offense taken, just have a sense that this group of players have an expectation of more and many supporters also have the same ambition. But it is a mindset and we as a county need to embrace this! Will be good to measure ourselves and see how we are set up for Armagh in the championship who will be a big hurdle regardless of what happened in the league. The Geezer is waiting in the long grass!!

from my perspective, A bad showing by Cavan on Sunday would be extremely disappointing, it would mean we haven't progressed and that would be very hard to take for all involved in Cavan football. So while victory is not hugely important , the performance that we put up against one of the top teams in the country at headquarters is very important. If we can live with Tyrone for 70+ minutes then it bodes well for the year ahead.
