Fair play master.I suppose, behind every poster, there is a real person that we sometimes forget. In my minds eye i wonder what certain posters are really like, what kind of personality they have, what they look like etc.
Like society in general, there is more than likely some posters who are going through difficult times.Unemployment, money worries, depression, physical and mental health etc. That's why it's important for all of us to be a little more careful in choosing the words we use, myself included. In the main it's good healthy debate with a dollop of humour and banter, with some excellent contributors.I think 99% of posters are stand-up guys and girls.

anyone know who the ref will be ? I hope they aren't as fussy as the last two I saw reffing Kerry games?

Good point Copper, I think Dubh_Linn was having a go at me last week because I brought up on here before the way referee's are with Kerry.

Now he put forward no actually evidence to support his outright rejection of what I said, but if you listen and read Sylvester Hennessy (who does a lot of the stat work for Kerry teams) he has amble evidence that across all age grades in football from minor, U-21 to Senior, Kerry have always more fouls called against them than are awarded to them.

He has been banging on about this for years and has the stats to back it up. So while many people on here probably like to believe this notion that Kerry, as a big team, get the breaks it is actually far from the truth.

If you look at last Sunday I think the count was 18-24 of frees awarded against Kerry. Now, especially in the first half, many of those Roscommon frees were very soft and you wonder how much the ref was influenced by the fact they were 10-12 points down.

I think, this League especially, Kerry have been very hard done by when it comes to refereeing performances, the Cork game being a classic example.

So down here we will await the announcement of the referee for Sunday week with great interest.

Im normally first on in any forum to give 100% support to refs, tough job and certainly not one I ever had a notion of taking up , my issue is that at both national and county level the standard has become poorer , and I feel its nerves and sitting on the fence decisions that are being made , refs are more worried about being judged by a judicator than they are in their primary function which is to facilitate in the officiating of a game .
Now I have never gone with the cry for consistency as truth is I don't think it exists nor ever will , I do condone a ref for not referring with honest convictions in other words ref how you know the game should be refed and don't play to a pen pusher in the stand .
At a senior game at club level one of the best up and coming refs in Dublin took a game , I've seen him officiate many times and been rightly impressed , word has it the boss is out to watch , 34 frees against , 24 frees for , Red card , numerous yellows , in a game that was no more violent than a sleepover pillow fight , shocking . At national level there's cameras as well as the adjudicators which lends it own pressures, for me I don't want to know whos reefing v Kerry and just hope to God Im not talking about him afterwards.

Only the lesser ones remain and with them all that awful shallow gene pool DNA... Is it any wonder why they keep on breeding losers.

:)

Jimbo that really is a staggering statement even by you standards.

There are statistics , damn statistics and lies Hermit.
You can use them to make any point you like but generally there is more to it than being as simple as to say you are getting rode up and down the country.
I am sure there are probably plenty of statistics that any county could produce to make a case for themselves.
Don't be quoting statistics as a arguement when they support all arguements.

Damo, I'm convinced the only solution is to actively encourage ex inter-county players to become referee's.

Immediately they should have the respect of those on the pitch.

I think the GAA let's down referee's in a huge way. Little support but huge pressures.

When you think back to the Paul Galvin incident in 2008, and the draconian sanctions against him for only touching a notebook: Croke Park has really retreated on the idea of protecting referee's given some more recent controversies.

Ah but then again Copper, Mayo managed to get (what's his name?) free to play in the Semi-final replay in 2014 when he should have been banned.

Swings and roundabouts...

Dubh_Linn: free stats for and against a team in League and Championship matches are easily come by.

When they are consistently showing a team is being awarded far less frees than their opposition I think it points to something.

I see that the GAA are already selling Hogan Stand Upper tickets, eleven days out from the match which indicates there will be a huge crowd at Croke Park. Probably a record attendance for a League Final. It will be fitting that the two best teams will be contesting this final. The first game between Tyrone and Cavan should also be good. These are two up and coming teams. We will get some insight as to the closeness in standard to the top two. Also the 1916 commeration celebrations should be a terrific spectacle.

Would be good to get a ref who lets a bit go in the final alright. I'm not too bothered about the result but hopefully Kerry can lay down a few markers and give the dubs plenty of it as they did against Donegal a few weeks back. There's more ways than one to skin a cat and a league final is a perfect opportunity to try out a few alternative options on how to get at the dubs.
