Leinster Hurling Qualifier Group 2016

Its not even the end of May and a number of counties in the top half of the country rankings have finished hurling for the year. Kerry are the 10/11th ranked team in hurling and the season is over yet the 32nd ranked football team will be playing in June and possibly July. Its time to ensure all hurling teams are playing in the summer months and not just shoved out of the road.

It's ridiculous. The hurling qualifiers need to be opened up to more teams or for their to be more games in the lower tier competitions.

Football counties are against that though.

Even the league isn't great with teams outside division 1 getting only 5 guaranteed games compared to the 7 in football.

Change can only come about if the counties affected bring a motion to congress. I've already said myself that the teams finishing 3rd and 4th in the group along with the Ring Finalists should be allowed into the All-Ireland qualifiers. The 4 losing provincial quarter-finalists have free weekends while they are waiting for the provincial semi-finals to be played. Those free weekends could be used for an additional qualifier round. At the end of the day, it's up to the counties to bring motions to congress.

While the 3 round robin games probably came a little too quick after the end of the league. the truth is Kerry are still a long way off being anywhere near competitive to the other Munster counties and the stronger Leinster ones and I feel a 25-30 point defeat would be damaging to our long-term prospects.

We had 3/4 19 year olds involved against Offaly due to injuries & suspensions and I think throwing them into the lions would be very discouraging to those lads to keep playing IC hurling

I thought the one county who had the hurlers to break through to that qualifier group was Derry, but they've fallen off a cliff this year in terms of hurling
