Your post is indeed a thought provoking one and I have come across ome of the problems you flag up. Yet, in reading your post, I get a nagging feeling that that your main motivation was, for some reason, to give the GAA a good kicking. Maybe I am completely wrong. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 06/04/2016 19:31:26 1842800 Link 0 |

You're bang on Steve and I'm glad your message is coming from a county doing well and not in leinster as some people think mine is a laois problem but it runs far deeper than that Malonemagic (Laois) - Posts: 766 - 06/04/2016 21:03:14 1842840 Link 0 |
For all his faults Joe Brolly said that the introduction of the GPA and the SKY deal etc would bring elitism and ultimately disaffection and that's the way the GAA is going. I believe that those in full time posts in Croke Park are just happy so long as the ground is filled by Dublin, Kerry. Kilkenny a few times a year to pay staff salaries. I don't believe they can see the wood for the trees but it's obvious kids in places like Belfast and Derry are playing soccer as their No 1 sport, the GAA for most of them doesn't even register. Ollie...You were lucky that black september day in 1957... Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 09/04/2016 15:26:56 1843745 Link 0 |
Rockies you need a bit of luck now and again. In 1950 Louth was very unlucky to be beaten by Mayo in the All Ireland final. Sure in 1957 captain marvel for Louth Dermot O Brien nearly did not get in to the match. He travelled to the game on his own. He was running late and the security guard would not let him until a few supporters recognised who he was and they told the guard to let him in. Even the stadium announcer at the time announced over the speaker would the Louth captain please go to the dressing room. The smallest county in Ireland beat the biggest county on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-07. Both counties changed colour's because of the colour clash. Cork wore blue the Munster colours and Louth wore green the Leinster colours. 22nd September 1957 was Louths heaven. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 09/04/2016 18:13:18 1843779 Link 0 |
