yeah wexford v tyrone 2008 definitly a forgottensmi final, this thread though is more about games that should have been high on a novelty factor but never really delivered or were forgotten fairly quick. does anyone know where i could find dublin v lietrim 1994? dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 693 - 30/03/2016 10:28:19 1839147 Link 0 |
It's an interesting list to come up with. I wouldn't agree that the likes of Dublin/Leitrim or Down/Kerry are forgotten games, certainly no more than one would expect after 20-25 years. Thomas Clarke (Tyrone) - Posts: 1002 - 30/03/2016 11:47:07 1839186 Link 0 |
I've a vhs copy of the game somewhere in the house dickie. The mother is from Leitrim so obviously the vcr was coded to record the sunday game that day. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 30/03/2016 12:32:28 1839205 Link 0 |
I haven't been able to find any footage of Dublin v Tyrone semi-final in 1984. That was the day that both Dublin & Tyrone warmed up in front of the Hill. Think there was also a big riot on the Hill during the game if memory serves me well. bubba83 (Dublin) - Posts: 333 - 30/03/2016 12:43:55 1839208 Link 0 |
The infamous semi-final of 1946 between Antrim and Kerry - remember it well..... t'was the birth of cynical play and not by an Ulster team either. ;-) Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 30/03/2016 12:55:54 1839212 Link 0 |
GAA are missing a trick here. A Netflix style online database of past games would turn a tidy profit for them. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9141 - 30/03/2016 12:56:27 1839213 Link 0 |

I am shocked Breffni - I believed this was only a thing of the last 20 years. Will have to sit the weans down tonight and explain revisionism and also that my previous presentation to them, 'Is it physically possible to puke a football', was flawed. breffni and Offside, i dont think that anyone contends that cynical play only started happening in the last 20 years. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 30/03/2016 14:56:19 1839288 Link 0 |
Reports I have read from bygone days and stories I've been told by the older folk would suggest it was always as bad and, God forbid, maybe worse back in the day joncarter. But here, only having a bit of fun on a slow day. Better leave this as the forgotten semis. Offside_Rule (Antrim) - Posts: 4058 - 30/03/2016 15:07:34 1839296 Link 0 |

Thats not cynical play, breff, thats violence, which has gotten better. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 30/03/2016 15:26:56 1839309 Link 0 |
Violence is cynical too. The differentiation is self-serving and convenient to the usual suspects. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12120 - 30/03/2016 15:36:48 1839316 Link 0 |
It was foxy and if i remember correctly Dubs Tyrone were the other game that day. I'm open to correction but have Galway played in a semi since 2001? OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 30/03/2016 15:40:02 1839320 Link 0 |
nah man. For me violence is thuggery and is primitive and is more often than not spur of the moment stuff.. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 30/03/2016 15:48:31 1839326 Link 0 |

Kerry V Dublin in 2007. Dublin in the middle of their underachieving patch only lost to Kerry by a point. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 30/03/2016 16:31:09 1839357 Link 0 |
