Mayo Season Tickets won't count for London game

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The London GAA website is a mess as ever. Reading between the lines it seems like online sales have currently sold out but only a certain amount of tickets have been made available electronically. I'd be shocked if there wasn't an opportunity to pay on the day. I see they've decided to maximise the windfall as well - tickets £20 each which is a fair old hike but can't blame them really.

This is the first time ever a London GAA game will be a sell out?

I can't remember a previous sell-out. I'm still not totally convinced it'll happen. What better way to trigger advance sales than spread a bit of panic? Clever marketing strategy I'd say although maybe I'm giving the London Board a bit too much credit in saying that!

I bought my ticket a few weeks ago, really looking forward to it. As it's my first time over in Ruislip, can anyone recommend decent lodgings a relatively short commute to the ground? Would be talking between 30 and 45 mins away. Many thanks in advance!

30-45 minutes will comfortably open up most of London for you Gleebo. Depends what your budget's like really. Obviously the more centrally you are located, the more you're going to pay. How long are you over and what else are you looking to fit in??

Cheers for the reply, Medway. Not too fussed about the expenditure, anything relatively central and with good public transport connections to the area near the ground would be great. Thanks a million!

Gleebo, I can't personally recommend any London hotel purely because I live so close to the capital (Gillingham, about 40 miles out in Kent) it's an easy day return on the train for me.

I was going to suggest Clayton Crown Hotel in Willesden Green but looking at their website that weekend is already sold out. You might want to check these out though:

www.parkavenuebakerstreet.co.uk

www.parkplazasherlockholmes.com

They're both in the Baker Street / Regents Park area which is pretty central (couple of tube stops to Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus etc) and also on the same tube line (Bakerloo) you'll need for the matchday train. I'd suggest getting the train as opposed to tube as it's an awkward trek underground, only problem being they're only one an hour. Marylebone is the terminal you'll need and South Ruislip serves the London GAA ground. Aside the match itself, I wouldn't bother spending much time in Ruislip. There's not much there at all.

Hope that helps matey

Forgot to add, the trains leave Marylebone for South Ruislip at 46mins past each hour, only takes 17mins to get there. It's the Gerrards Cross service you'll need.

Love the detailed help given by Medway. As a Mayo Season Ticket Holder I agree with those who say that it's really not an issue. When you look at the ticket price (1) in comparison to other sports and (2) the costs of airfare to London (3) the accommodation costs. I wouldn't mind paying even more to support the GAA in London. I was hoping to go( for the first time) but it seems the game is a sell out.

Not sure it is a sell out Mod, the online allocation sold out, but I've not read anything to suggest there won't be tickets held back for sale on the day. For a start, there were no concessionary tickets sold online, meaning anyone bring their kids to the game would have to wait. It'd be a very odd situation if kids tickets were available on the day but not adults.

The London GAA website is as much use as usual although another forum suggests this is the man to contact:

To be honest, even if it'd sold out with no tickets on the day (which would be unprecedented), it's the sort of venue that's quite "open" if you see what I mean? There's a field behind one side of the ground, not sure how flimsy the fence is but........ :) Also the other side of the ground backs onto houses and if you could sweet talk one of them to let you through and out the back, problem solved again. Most of them look over their fences and see the action for free anyway.

All ticket according to the Facebook page (leap in the dark for me, the old social media business!) which would imply no on the day sales. Another email address provided on there:
