clondalkindub - so you think Ballaghdereen who have a proud history in Mayo since the foundation of the GAA should now be made play in Roscommon and their players declare for Roscommon instead of Mayo. I suggest we send you down to Ballagh and tell them that....

How many of these mayo players will get into the senior team this summer? O Conor is obviously already involved, maybe Coen whose very good but do you drop O Shea's Moran or curly head fella can't think of his name but he was midfield last year? Anyone else? Maybe Loftus up front? Other than that I can't see many more getting into the senior team this year?

Think it's Tom Parsons you're thinking of.

I would say only 2 or 3 will make senior appearances in the latter stages of the championship, but that's enough - Mayo aren't far away and wholesale changes aren't necessary.

Yew tree so everyone in Ballaghadereen is a Mayo man? You won't see any Roscommon flags in Ballaghadereen? So Alkram moved from Pakistan to Roscommon but plays for Mayo wtf? I can tell you loads of soccer teams from outside Dublin play in the Dublin league , does that mean they should all go for trials for south Dublin schoolboys or north Dublin? Ballaghadereen is I. Roscommon they should be playing for the county their from.

clondalkindub - A solution would be too setup a second club and have them play in Roscommon IF they choose.

I fail to see why you had to bring this up now after Mayo are winning a rare All Ireland title. You and most know the story and it has been debated here before.

Clondalkin:

Your analogy with Dublin soccer leagues is faulty, as soccer operates on a league basis not always corresponding to counties. For example, fellas from teams in DDSL, NDSL etc. can represent those youth leagues in competition, even if they hail from teams outside of Dublin. Same goes for other leagues, actually: I played against the Sligo League when I was a teenager, who had Emlyn Mulligan from Leitrim in their team (he was playing for Sligo Rovers at the time, but fellas from the team in Carrick-on-Shannon would also have been eligible, for example).

Ballaghadereen have always played in Mayo. Loyalties seem divided there: I have seen Roscommon and Mayo bunting up in the square en route to Croke Park over the years. Ballaghadeeren have always punched above their weight in terms of providing players to the county side. If they were that upset by the idea of playing for Mayo, I'm sure that they would have gotten a transfer to some other club.

Neither does this sort of thing occur solely in Mayo: up in Derry, there's a side who's pitch lies in Co. Tyrone (Ballinderry?) but who play in Derry. Similarly, Mayo have lost players such as Padraig Brogan, Alan Costello, James Kilcullen and Billie Joe Padden to other counties (Donegal, Sligo and Armagh, respectively). It happens.

Colndalkin Irish people never were and never will be British.
A man once brought up Ballaghadereen joining Roscommon GAA I believe he's still not allowed back into the town. They know they're Mayo through and through

But it doesn't change the fact that you've Roscommon born players playing for Mayo right?

Not born in is funny...most ballagh players would have been born in castlebar. No Leitrim player was born in Leitrim...;)

Clondalkin you must hate Ballaghadereen people something awful wanting to make them play with Roscommon. They're lovely people and they don,t deserve that.

No. Shairoze is from Pakistan. A country whose descendants have won All Ireland medals for another Mayo club!

I'll let posters come to their own conclusions about Clondalkindub's objectivity regarding Mayo football and his new-found interest in Ballaghadeeren's status in light of his post below, following the Mayo-Dublin NFL fixture in February.

Nothing better than beating them whinge bags God I can't stand them , great stuff from our lads we play tough but honest football unlike them who dive and kick our players when there on the ground , great games from all our lads especially Jonny James Jack Emmett Kilkenny Dean and Costello , the two black cards imo were extremely harsh is Jonny suppose to pull out? That man doesn't know the meaning of the word he's turning in my new favourite player since The Roc has departed.

Nowt more than a transparent and fairly sad attempt to detract from Mayo's victory last Saturday.

Why are players from Fingal County, South Dublin County and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County all allowed to play for Dublin?
