U-21 Championship

Star players can make a difference when they're playing in a well balanced team, but otherwise they can even be the cause of imbalance. The team which plays best as a unit will prevail, same in Connacht as every other province. So far the best tested is the Roscommon team and Mayo will have to deliver a big performance to get the better of them... same as the seniors in the league match.

Be hard to look past Tyrone. Very strong again this year. 7 survivors of last years team and 5 Current Senior Men.

Kildare V Dublin game has the potential to be a cracker. Kildare have a very good side that is strong all over the pitch, I haven't seen much of Dublin, but there's no doubt Dublin will always be strong underage. In the mirror today Bernard Flynn was praising the Kildare team on last weeks performance. Very strange Paddy Power have instilled Kildare as second favourites for the All-Ireland!

Kildare are huge favorites against Dublin. Alot stronger then our lads since underage and if both teams perform to potential Kildare will win. Dublin depend on O Callaghan and Basquel but we haven't the star players we once had all over the pitch. None of our u21's start at senior and none are expected to get a run in this year's championship. Hopefully we can put in a huge performance and catch Kildare on the hop.

Strong Kildare team announced and some good options on the bench. Dublin are also strong.

Should be a good game with not much in it. Hopefully the weather won't influence things too much

Forgot to add that it's good to see that O'Moore Park in Portlaoise is available again (for Laois v Meath on Sunday) after the 'urgent remedial work' that caused the Leinster Final to be moved to Navan.

Fair play to the lads from both sides today who played in poor conditions.
Well done young Dubs on coming from 7 down to win in extra time. Encouraging for the future with that bit of steel which is vital.

Great win to comeback from 7 behind , Kildare are a good team and have beaten us a few times so it was nice to get this victory. This Dublin team would not have been tipped by many as a strong u21 team like previous AllIreland winning ones , but extra games can only bring these guys and they never gave up today . Con o Callaghan with 1 -7 is a serious footballer.
In two weeks time we play Connaught Champions in All Ireland semifinal .
Commiserations to Kildare ,always hard to lose after extratime.

Hard luck to Kildare

Played very well but missed a couple of very good goal chances. Had one of them gone in.. well it would have prob been your day. Also a few poor wides when on top that helped Dublin to get back into the game in the first half

Kildare have a very impressive U21 team, and are every bit as good if not better than this Dublin setup.

Con O'Callaghan has played a huge part in this title and he'd cause any senior defence in Leinster a lot of trouble... He's the real deal and he could challenge for a senior panel spot this summer. Gavin will be watching very closely.

Great game to be at.. huge congrats to Dessie and co, and all credit to both teams today. Very difficult conditions yet that was a classic U21 final.

Up The Dubs

Unbelievable second-half performance from Mayo to get the better of Roscommon. The Rossies were dominant in the first-half, Mayo seemed dead and buried, but Mayo really stood up in the second-half. Young Plunkett must have ice running through the veins to get the winner.

Have to say, I feel sorry for Diarmuid Murtagh all the same. He put in a fantastic individual performance for Roscommon.

Great comeback from Mayo

Lovely stuff... Dubs v Mayo semi-final

Look forward to that one.. Very difficult game ahead, both teams have plenty of guts and grind about them

I'd be worried that if Con O'Callaghan is kept quiet.. Dublin could be in trouble

Dublin went in as slight underdogs today against an impressive Kildare side and prevailed. Hopefully that'll stand to them...

Onwards and upwards

Great comeback from our lads in Sligo last night. Well worth the trip up on a bad evening weather wise. We showed great heart and determination to stay in it against a Roscommon team who were better for most of the game and I would feel sorry for their players especially Diarmuid Murtagh who the whole country is going to hear plenty of in the future....a class act.

The referee was poor against both teams. On our side Diarmuid O Connor was at the heart of the comeback as was Stephen Coen, Liam Irwin, Michael Hall, Matthew Flannagan in goal pulled off Vital saves and the likes of Fergal Boland and Sharoize Akram really grew into in.

A first win for us at this level in 7 years so long overdue. Our old friends the dubs are up next and will no doubt be favourites and a tall order but on the day anything is possible as yesterday evening proved. Now it's off to Castlebar later today.....can't beat a few games to pass the weekend.
