Which reminds me offside a mate who worked on a sports shop once told me that Belfast used to have ONE Baseball team but the city sold more baseball bats than anywhere else in these islands.

Onionbreath, the native Irish were hurling in the Antrim hills when the Vikings and English were still sharpening their pickaxes in Leinster. It wasnt called the Pale for nothing.

A county where the GAA is in terminal decline as native sports like soccer and rugby take over.

So in the heart of rural Ireland what's Carlow's excuse?......thuggery from opponents again?

so Leinster equates with the Pale? Fiach Mac Aodha Ó Broin would hardly agree!

Fiach Mac Aodha Ó Broin would probably have consulted a Tyrone man first.

Had to check the date to see if we'd strayed into April, Antrim 'thuggery' is a misnomer, county teams which would be more happy taking lumps out of each other rather than the opposition is the norm for our teams. Also in an age where refs are fairly trigger happy with the black and red cards why wasn't the ref of the same opinion re this thuggery.

Or as is more likely promotion rivals lost a game they thought they'd win and decided to forego the magnanimous in defeat routine and chose another route. Sad really.

You're right, disgusting thread

I submitted the following post on Monday which was not allowed
"What do people think about Tyrone's performance against Galway. Are the parole board not meeting this week or are they having the week off"

The inference in the post was that no one was willing to give credit to Tyrone for an excellent performance instead they are only too ready to discuss anything negative about them at will. Tyrone this year have been playing some of the best football of anyone in the country and should be given some credit for it.
Last year they were the most cynical team in the country. pulling, dragging, sledging and throwing themselves around like the Brazilian beach volleyball team (ladies that is) and I was one of their most vocal critics. However since the Monaghan game they have been no more cynical than anyone else and every one should move on. Other counties, ourselves included, have been labelled cynical at certain times and rightly so, No need to go through them all here and now, but when a team moves away from cynicism that should be that.
As for Antrim, for anyone to try and label them cynical after a couple of matches is jumping the gun to say the least. Antrim, whether people like it or not, are in the most competitive championship in the country, and in order to compete they need to have a physical edge to them. For too long they have been a soft touch in Ulster. They won't survive playing "touch" football. I look forward to Antrim having an influence in the Ulster championship in the future. Maybe other counties that lie down to the stronger counties in their respective provinces should take note.

Antrim's greatest ever team, the one that brought hand passing to Croke park for the first time, were kicked around the place for their troubles

SeanieBoy,

"Useless and stupid thread that only highlights one managers point of view"

Actually, it was 2 managers' point-of-view. And they've only played 2 league games so far... The reason for the thread was to get opinions from anyone who was at either match & who could confirm or refute the allegations. Don't let the paranoia stop ya though!

I just thought it was strange that 2 weeks in-a-row 2 opposing managers were making the same claims about the poor wee men from the Glens....

Maybe the first manager made the claim off the back of a disappointing defeat and then the second manager followed suit. These type of accusations become contagious as we have seen with certain teams in the past. Generally what has happened is similar to what happens in games up and down the country and from both teams in a particular contest i.e. a small percentage of tackles are not totally clean. For me it can sometimes say more about those making the complaint than what has actually gone on. Certainly against Wexford there was nothing of note in terms of one teams approach compared to the other.

Absolute garbage. The most unsavoury on field incident on Sunday involved the Wexford corner back (number 2) diving, having tried to provoke our main playmaker Kevin Niblock into a row. The guy hit the deck while all around him cried to the referee to try and get Niblock booked or sent off. It was embarrassing and frankly disgraceful to the Wexford team, who left Belfast with what they deserved.

I think it is a case that before the league started people would have been looking at probably Louth and Wexford going up with the others who would have been in with a shout being Carlow and Antrim. So to me it is no surprise that after we have played and defeated two of those challengers that they raise this to maybe try and influence the remaining Antrim games which they have no influence over from a playing perspective to try and help their own hopes of getting that promotion place. What about that for a theory! Now, where's me tinfoil hat.

Embarrassed for the Wexford manager to be honest.

That's fair enough, lads. I've never had any complaints about the Antrim footballers (I remember Longford beating them in Casement in the 80's) & I'd love to see the hurlers do well.

Well it just seems that they are being sore losers in fairness.Don't be pretending that you weren't looking for a reaction by the way you started the thread. There was no need to mention Tyrone if you wanted to ask about the Antrim game. You know you were being mischevious there.
