Seconded. I believe that he was the difference between the two sides in the 1996 All-Ireland finals.

Trevor Giles missed a penalty in The All Ireland Final of 1999 and another one in the final of 2001 when Meath were five points down .

Did anyone see D Rocks effort the other night...about 30+ yards out, off the ground, right foot from the wrong side against a gale... Swung it in and over

One of his better efforts in blue

He also scored one in 1996, and probably scored from a lot more deadballs than he missed.

Giles was a super footballer, but a VERY average free taker and anyone who tells me he wasnt has rose tinted glasses or is from Skryne! (or however ye spell it!)

I would say Colin Corkery when he was at his peak. Unbelievable accuracy from either the ground or the hands. Michael Murphy would be my pick of current day players.

There is a player from Donegal Town - Michael Doherty, who is a decent player, but made his way into the Donegal team about a decade ago purely based on his free taking. When he was 18/19 years old, he was automatic anywhere within the 45 from any position. I don't think he did anything with his free time other than practice frees! If you fouled a Four Masters player within 45 metres, it was as good as giving away a free score.

O'Connor I would say at the moment
Brian Stafford hardly missed back in the day and before him, our own Jimmy Keavney!

Oisin Mc Conville hands down the best from back in the day and Trevor Giles would be close behind

At the minute Michael Murphy and Cillian Oconnor at the minute are unreal, Bryan Sheenan is serious to tho

Mickey newman misses more frees from 21-30 yards out in front of the post than any other free taker I have watched. a good day for him is hittin 3 outa 5 which is average in my book. Never reached or will reach the potential he showed in minor/colleges

Patsy Hetherington Tyrone top scorer in the 1973 and 1980 Ulster Championship was a great free taker for his club Donaghmore for 20 years.
