Mayo v Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well you say that but Im not the guy losing the plot on these threads, and after a win no less...

Spin your rhetoric any way you want, but if Carlow or whoever else had the advantages Dublin had, Id post the very same opinions on them, and you know it too. Maybe that is what annoys you. The truth stings the most.

And it started off as such a nice post with Jimbo and Clondalkin almost being civilised. Now it's just turned into a bi**hfest. A wet night in Castlebar in February with long grass thrown in (how that was supposed to benefit Mayo I can't quite figure) and the arguments are starting already. Dublin will win the league, if they want, Mayo will stay up and the championship is for another day. Group hug everyone. Where did it all go wrong Joe?

Mayo's issue the last few years has been conceding goals in big matches. All-Ireland finals of 2012 and 2013 as well as the 4 semi finals in 2014 and 2015. Rochford is maybe trying to sort that out and make them more solid at the back where they seem easy got at. Early days yet but I'd be fairly optimistic that Mayo will get the balance right.

Relegation, although still unlikely imo, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world especially if Rochford gets the balance right come summer.

League matches in early February are that important but I think both sides will be happy with the performance seeing as both were missing big players, although Dublin slightly happier with the result.

At last, a sensible and objective post.

IMO getting relegated wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, though I balance I would prefer if this was avoided. The likes of Tyrone and Donegal have been relegated in recent seasons and bounced back to perform strongly in the championship. I wouldn't mind personally if Rochford said to hell with the league and blooded some new guys (after all, one of the big criticisms for Mayo in recent seasons is that they've been living off essentially the same panel of players for the past 5 years or so). Mayo have a small panel, so it's difficult to sustain a tilt at the league and go to the latter stages of the championship without losing players along the way.

"Fool from Clondalkin" man I would love to see you say that to my face I promise you I would drive to Mayo to see would you have the bottle cause I know there's no way you'd come to my town key board warrior at its best . Admin it's funny how you block so many of my posts but allow that to go through. The grass wasn't cut which had nothing to do with the weather.

Admin, you are constantly letting clondalkindub bad mouth Mac Hale Park and Mayo, he also has anti-mayo tripe in all his posts. Do your job and ban him if he doesnt have any positive to say about the ganme.

What can I say, I call it as I see it and don't suffer fools gladly. I know a few bucks from Clondalkin (they play with my club) and they're good blokes. You, on the other hand, seem to have a proper chip on your shoulder and are no addition to this forum.

What amazes me, is I put up one or two posts on the game of the weekend and they don't get published, yet there are pages of rubbish and bad tempered posts here !!

Brave man on here I seemed to never be called these names when I'm at Dublin games but put a lad with a key board and they become very brave. Again I'll repeat the weather had nothing to do with the grass not being cut.

Weather has plenty to do with a soft sticky pitch surface, though. You seem to have an odd fixation on the length of the grass, given that it didn't really influence the result. But then you drag Mayo into your bitter ramblings on other threads, such as your one congratulating Roscommon on their win over Kerry, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

The fact that you haven't been taken to task publicly only means that GAA patrons obviously have a lot of patience (or more likely, pity). And yes, if you said to me face-to-face what you've written here, then I would respond in kind, most certainly.

You'd hope to avoid relegation alright but if wouldn't be the worst as long as things were learned from it. I honestly don't know much about Rochford but he has good pedigree and has the backing of the lads so looking from afar he seems like the man to do it. I don't think he necessarily needs a whole raft of new players either, after all the current crop are so close. A slight change of tactics to shore up the middle of defence would be my opinion. A lot of goals against Mayo seem to come from direct runners from the middle of the park, think Bastic breaking through to set up Brogan in 2013, Fenton running from the middle of the park unopposed set up 4 goals between the draw and the replay this year. A lot people go on about Mayo's forwards not being good enough to win Sam but I disagree. It wouldn't hurt to have another quality attacker or two obviously but I think Mayo score enough to win the matches that they lose.

In anyways it's early days in 2016. A long way to go. Mayo haven't started great but they've plenty of time left to get it right this. I still think that with everyone fit there's no one in Connacht within 6 points of them so they'll be there come late August. It's anyone's game then.

Hahaha indeed, you backed off driving to Mayo fairly sharpish in the end, you obviously need your buddies to fight your battles for you. Colm Parkinson says a lot of disparaging things, most notably about Mick O'Dwyer's managerial abilities, so I take his commentary with a pinch of salt. I happen to have played on that pitch many times (it was my home pitch) and it was always in good condition. That on this occasion it was sub-par hardly makes it the worst pitch in Ireland (it is no worse than Parnell Park or many provincial venues).

Will you stop making a fool of yourself?

Interesting, wouldn't mind a link to that if you have it. I know several of the Mayo panel and have never heard them complain about it (and they do most of their training there, all of it if they play for Castlebar). You're much more likely to hear complaints about the Centre of Excellence over at Bekan on the Roscommon border.

Tabloid columnist writes something controversial? Conclusive proof that! Come to think of it, I can barely remember the last time we played Down at home, maybe once in the past seven or eight years, so I'm not convinced by Mr. Clarke's assertions.
