Black card more questions

Muckross if that was a shy way of directing at me then you obviously didn't read the posts correctly as I never once Said Dublin player's didn't deserve their black cards or that Dublin player's didn't commit fouls against Kerry. I clearly pointed out the problem was how the official in charge of the games views the infringements for one team and does not view the same infringements with the same punishment for the opposing team. I pointed out clear cases for my points too so next time you decide to try make things up read the posts properly instead of jumping to conclusions

Hill

I'm not talking about you in particular or one post in particular, I was just making a general point about posters who pull on the county jersey every time they post.

It is boring in the extreme & devalues any point they are trying to make, to the extent that I don't read the contributions from some people any more because I know right well what they will say.

I have no problem at all with people being passionate in their support for their own, no better man than myself in that regard, but there has to be a smidgin of balance.

Just my point of view.

Black Card isn't worth technically a punishment. Teams play with 14 men for one phase of play and if in a scoreable position this doesn't effect the offending team. The thing I agree with a sin bin rule is at least 10mins is a lot of time to be a player down esp in the last 10. Some teams use the black card as an advantage to themselves or if a player is wrecked drag someone down and get subbed. I know the sin bin was tried before and can't exactly remember the ruling behind it but the GAA need to have a hard look at the way the sport is going.

I'd say if they'd reduced it to 5 minutes or been a bit more selective with what constituted a sin bin it could've been better.

One thing I always felt was strange about the black card was that it didn't really punish the offence that caused it to be brought in. If Sean Cavanagh had to pull someone down to prevent a goal he would do the same thing all day long black card or no black card.

The black card is far from perfect but it has reduced some of the more cynical aspects such as 3rd man blocks, dragging, taking out runners etc etc.

Mistakes are being made, but then mistakes are made by everyone.

Such is life.

but thats the point i was making muckross
its not really being employed fairly to both teams in a match
you say its reducing third man tackles and blocking runners
just because a ref gives one in a game that doesnt mean he is doing his job.
phily mcmahon and johnny cooper both got ones for their involvements last weekend
yet he turned a blind eye to the mayo player blocking jack mccafrey off the ball near him.
just like the advantage rule being applied at one end for frees and not at the other end in the same cicumstances.
in my opinion this tends to happen to the teams who are winningthe match or are favourites coming into it.
the ref seems to be trying to even things up by using these rules against teams

hill,i agree with you in relation to referees' giving dubious frees to teams who are behind in games. But it has always been like this.Muck is right in saying mistakes will be made. Not through any malice or favouritism.Just human nature.None of us like it,but there's little we can do.As long as i'm on this site,i don't think i ever slated a referee's performance.I accept they make mistakes. It is a thankless job.One day your team will benefit from it.The next they wont.I think McMahon and Cooper deserved to get black cards. Both for stupid incidents.

Paul Flynns black card last night was farcical also the Roscommon's player today on Murphy never a black card a free no doubt but never a black card. I really hate this card it's causing more problems than solving them imo.

Clondalkindub, Can't see how flynns black card was farcical. Made no attempt to play the ball, played the Man and stopped a free flowing down counter attack. Correct decision.
