Division 4 Football

79 is really bad attendance alright. I don't blame Waterford and Leitrim supporters for not attending. It's a dead rubber game and for both those counties (and about 25 others) their GAA season is now over.

At last the day has finally come for the Division four final. I am delighted that Louth has achieved promotion at the first time of asking. Antrim will be a tough one and will rightly start as favourite's. They went unbeaten through out the league campaign, one of three counties to do this. Today is bonus territory for Louth. To get a game out in HQ especially with the weekend that's in it.

Good luck today, Ollie. May the best team win, hopefully they'll be wearing Saffron.

Great football here in first half. Felt maybe Niblock was off his feet before he passed for Antrim goal. Very good game in my opinion.

Found this article on Division 4, leaving it here for anyone interested.

Another decent game in Div 3 final, well done to Clare who wouldn't give up, as for Kildare, enough said!

Don't want to be overly critical of our lads but naivety and a lack of belief once again worked against an Antrim side in Croke Park. We looked the better side at times but silly options and weak kicking into the keeper's hands cost us. When Louth scored their last goal you just knew they would close the game out. I also thought some of our guys looked physically weaker and less fitter than their opponents.

Cheers Whammo and hard luck yesterday. I am over the moon with Louths win. I thought they had lost it at one stage but fair play to the Louth team. They kept on plugging away and never gave up. Best of luck to the Antrim team for the rest of the year.

Well done Ollie. It was an enjoyable game. I thought some of our build up play from defence was very good but we sometimes ran out of ides once we were in your 45. A little worrying how dependent we were on Tomas McCann. Still it's been a very encouraging league campaign and there's a solid base for management to build on before the Fermanagh game.

Your boys were very composed in attack, definitely had more of a plan once you were around the scoring zone. I hope you now put a run together in Leinster. You'll be favourites against Carlow, if you get past that I don't see any reason why you can't turn Meath over.

if we had come out for the second half at all we maybe could have put the game beyond Louth but fair play to them they showed great spirit to finish as they did. As for us, I thought Chris Kerr's kickouts were poor, he seemed to be aiming a lot for Niblock even when he had 3 Louth men around him. We have a man in the middle of the park who played professionally for Brisbane Lions who wasn't used enough from kickouts. Bam Neeson had his worst ever day up front, on another day he'd have had 5 points from play so hopefully business as usual the next day. Hopefully Crozier is back in the half back line the next day as Johnson has never really convinced me there. I'd also move O'Boyle back to left full back and bring McBride in at left half. I think we're better than what we showed yesterday and we're gona need to be for Brewster in a few weeks, but promotion achieved and onwards and upwards from here hopefully.

Whammo Louth will indeed start as favourites against Carlow. But like in 2011 when Louth won the Division three title they played Carlow in Portlaoise and were leading by three points with five minutes to go. Carlow scored the last four points of the match to record a well deserved win. It was Carlow's first ever Championship win over Louth after eleven attempt's. The match will be in three weeks time against Carlow. If we do beat Carlow well than wee will play the Royals which ironically we also played last in the championship in 2011. Louth have not beaten Meath in the championship since 1975. Carlow up first. Bring it on.

Kind and sporting words from you there Ollie, and yes, that was indeed a memorable victory for Carlow football not alone for beating Louth but it was as you say Carlow's first ever championship win over Louth after 11 attempts not alone that but in doing so we did in fact beat the "de facto" Leinster champions.
Louth will be going into the Carlow game as favourites and rightly so.
Well done on getting your hands on your first piece of silverware of 2016, - - - let the best team win in three weeks.

Cheers Supersub. Brendan Murphy kicked some points for Carlow that day including a spectacular one from the sideline. It is hard to believe that win for Carlow brought the barrowsiders to their first Leinster semi-final in over fifty years. Louth and Carlow is the battle of the two smallest counties in Ireland. As you said may the best team win. Bring it on.
