Must of been Cavan's highest scoring tally of the 21st century..

not quite halfback_5. we scored 2:22 v London in the qualifiers last year
got 1:22 v Derry in the qualifiers in 2013

we should have had about another 2:5 against Meath on Sunday .

looking forward to our clash on Saturday evening. hope players keep their discipline as their always seems to be red cards flying around when we two meet.

What happened to Derry's blanket defence, all change under Barton?

With the exception of the Dublin match (televised) last year, tell me all about this 'blanket defence' as its news to a man who has rarely missed a Derry game in 30 years ;-)

We'd probably have been more competitive had we started deploying one 10 years ago right enough !

I have been at Laois V Galway Laois V Tyrone and Galway V Tyrone
I have seen Laois V Armagh and Armagh v Fermanagh on the Tv in Division 2

So I've seen Tyrone/Laois/and Armagh twice and Fermanagh and my own county Galway once.

Tyrone have been impressive without really kicking on into second gear but I think both Laois and Galway can take credit for their comebacks.
They are easily the best team in the division.

Laois were very poor against Galway especially in the first half but they were missing 9 of their team. They then impressed in Armagh to win again without a third or more of their team. They had a lot back for Tyrone and matched them for most of the game finishing strongly to nearly catch the red hands for a draw.

Armagh kicked some bad wides with the win against Laois but fought really well against Fermanagh in a scrappy encounter and just about deserved the win.
They too like Laois are very under strength at the moment so could improve.

Galway as usual my own county are in consistent but we do have very dangerous forwards..1-18 is superb scoring against any Derry team and to have 4 points on the board at this stage is pleasing we are a team building for the future and I think Connacht football on general is of good quality at the moment. We let Tyrone physically dominate us for a spell and even Laois(another big team)did that late on in Portlaoise but our full forward line will trouble any county this year.

Fermanagh only seen them against Fermanagh in a game i recorded on Setanta Sports they were lively and well organised. They don't have massive scoring power but will not be easily beat...

Next week for them is crucial against Laois!

That's about all I can say about this division.

So current standings are pretty accurate? Pity about some teams not being able to field full strength due to injuries and U21. Especially if your team has 4 or 5 players playing U21 as well.

Div 2 (after 3 games)
Tyrone
Galway
Derry
Cavan
Armagh
Meath
Fermanagh
Laois

Of the three teams Tyrone have played whilst both Galway and Laois came with strong finishes it was Cavan that caused them most problems and Cavan were very unlucky to lose. Another narrow defeat to Derry the following game meant Cavan had lost two from two but it may not have been a fair reflection. Cavan play a defensive system but I think they may go well for the rest of the league season.

Two things we seemed to lack in recent years is the apparent conditioning deficiency compared to the top few teams as well as the lack of a defensive strategy. I have noticed a lot of our guys from the all Ireland winning u21 team of 2011 and particularly the 2013 team really starting to catch up in this regard. I still have concerns about our defence in the sense that we should not have conceded the own goal against Tyrone and the two against Derry were very soft. However we are making progress. I get the sense from a few Tyrone posters that Tyrone are in 2nd gear and if needed they can up it. This may be so but it strikes a little convenient even in light of their impressive championship run last season. Many would not regard Galway as a threat and it is hard to argue given that we have been a bit stagnant for a few years now. However I have noticed green shoots with average resources but plenty of talent and with the Rossies going well the gap in Connacht could reduce a lot quicker than people think.

Byanthon maybe Ulster teams in general cause Tyrone more problems.

Maybe true and certainly this weekends fixture against Derry will be a tough one given the two previous McKenna Cup games this season when Tyrone struggled badly at times. Looking forward to the Ulster Championship I would be happy to have avoided Donegal in our half of the draw as they look to be at a far different level to Tyrone at the moment

Byanthon - You must be very happy then because we play Derry in Ulster with the winners playing Armagh or cavan for a place in the Ulster final. Both Donegal and Monaghan are on the other side of the draw.

Derry were very flat for the bulk of the game against Galway, which is a concern with Tyrone up next. I heard chat that Derry conducted very heavy training prior to the Galway game with a strong focus on being right for Tyrone, who we play in the Championship opening game this year and could do with beating.

Regarding Fermanagh, they seem to always struggle against Armagh, but can cause everybody else problems. They have consistently proved last year that they are no fluke, beating Roscommon and running Monaghan close and the Dublin All Ireland QF was entertaining. Quigley and Corrigan are excellent players, and as a team they never quit or give up.

I think Ulster teams in general cause each other lots of problems. Cavan caused Tyrone lots of problems. Every Ulster team think they can beat each other. They up their game when they play each other.

What happened to Armagh? I didn't see that one coming. Credit to Cavan though. Never like to see any team get a hammering.

Cavan played very well, but Armagh simply don't look like a team with any belief. Cavan will be strong contenders for promotion now. I'd expect Armagh to go down, no heart or spirit in them.

Cavan could be a dark horse for Ulster : going really well .

McGeeney must be wondering why he took the job . They have went back so much .

With a bit of luck and proper refereeing Cavan could have been on 8 points now and leading the Division.
Good to see so many young lads coming through now.
