Pat Spillane's team of the Century

In fairness it is hard to argue who you would drop to accommodate Dublin players on that team. The reason Dublin are so successful is the fact that they are a magnificent 'team'
The only omission that ever caught my eye was the leaving out of DJ Carey from that milenium side.

Ok, can you tell us specifically who Spillane named on his team that is not deserving, and should be replaced by a Dublin player? I can't think of any obvious ones, if I had to pick one it would be brogan but as said above, McDonnell was as good, and in all honesty probably was a better all around forward.

That's what I was trying to say. There were several brilliant teams around throughout the 00's that all had outstanding individual players.

If you were picking a team from this decade however, it would be completely dominated by Dublin players.

Indeed and I was agreeing with you more or less

It's a bit of belly tickling really, like the all stars.

Why anyone cares what one man thinks is the best team this century is beyond me. Surely there are probably 5 million different opinions. Spillane carries no authority in the game and I wouldn't be a fan of his analysis as a pundit, so it's funny that he went to the trouble.

To be fair if say Ciaran Whelan did his team, or one of the Mayo or Tyrone lads it would be equally done with their county bias or rivalary.

He's in the job of showing a bit of leg for a bob and controverory helps. Sad, but he was a good player, but ultimately irrelevant.

Very true. It is his opinion and not definitive. Common sense tells me that there should be more Dubs in that team but then when you look at the team it's very good. You could easily pick another team with 5 Dubs in it and likewise it would be hard to argue against. It's about opinions.

One previous poster said Higgins and it would be hard to argue. I suppose my bias would lead me to Canty but there would be several other opinions all worthy of note.

Joyce's best years were 98 to the mid naughties. People can't remember that far back! He was still a top player after that but I think people can forget how special he was in the early naughties.

Very mature comment coming from a Dublin man, I think few would argue that this current Dublin Squad is the best in the last 30 years or so, but it's very much the collective power rather than the odd individual that makes Dublin so strong. Injuries don't have the same impact on Dublin like they would have on previous All Ireland champions.
