Railway cup

We should be promoting our games not the Aussie rules yolk. Railway cups should be played earlier in the year such as the 4 semi finals 2 football, 2 hurling played over 1 weekend for example have Connaught v Ulster in both hurling and football on a Saturday and the other semis on Sunday, play them every year around St Patrick's weekend with the finals played on Easter Sunday, if Easter is late play them around 15th April. The National League and Championship should be squeezed to have a shorter season for example League played within 10 weeks and Provisional Championship played within 6 weeks. Start the League the Sunday or fortnight after the railway cup final around May 1st, champ start on first weekend in July, quarter finals in Croke Park around August 15th, semis on sat and Sunday last weekend in August, final the 4th Sunday Sept, replay if needed 2 weeks later on Sunday not Saturday, these would be football dates hurling dates 1 week earlier. This would also give clubs a chance to play a lot of their League games before the county players start playing for the county team, you could get at least 8-10 club matches played before May 1st maybe 1st round of the club championship as well

Either kill it off or do it properly.

My preference would be the latter.

Imagine the best 80 or 90 players in the country taking part over a Bank Holiday weekend. Winners have a reward of a trip abroad to play the All-Stars? It could be brilliant if promoted properly. Oh and has to played in Croke Park. All players love playing in Croker.

It is probably time to let the Railway Cup slip away. I know the players still like it but turkeys never vote for Christmas so they are always in favour of more games.
